I wouldn't put it past them to leak this specifically so they could make an anti-piracy statement.

Our game is looking to suck terribly on the PC, EA, what can we do?

Leak it and we'll claim massive losses on our balance sheets.

Next!

The good news is that they found a way to do S3D that will work with any platform and monitor with only a 1-2% hit to fps. If you don't have shutter glasses and 120hz monitor/tv a cheap pair of anaglyph glasses will do the trick.

Wait, what?

I'll just make my own

I can't believe there are so many DRM butt-kissers here. Have they learned nothing? DRM always fails. "Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it." The most draconian DRM schemes used haven't been shown to help sales, but they sure have caused problems for paying customers. Besides all the DRM in the world wouldn't have mattered anyways since this was an internal leak.

I dont get this talk about "going to console" and such. Those are pretty much as easily pirated as PC games now. Granted betas and such aren't going to leak, but retail games are pirated all the damned time.

I really hope that EA and Crytek leaked this one on purpose.

I want to think that they programmed a trojan or something into the game that reports the IP address of the installing computer. I want to believe that they will be sending out a notice to appear in court to all the idiots who knowingly stole this game.

I want to believe this, but I doubt it will happen. Maybe someday!

Not sure that would work as I believe it is entrapment. Could be wrong though.

Nor would they want to attack a group who in large part is made of up die hard Crysis fans who downloaded because they simply couldn't wait to take the game for a spin and will still certainly buy the game when it's released.

Yea all this lame piracy talk. I want to know if the game is any good or not. I know SOMEONE here took the leap. I sense many kettles here.

I admit I wanted to but I dont feel like tempting the police or worse yet, EA's lawyers.
Also I think the game itself is probably gonna suck, so I wont be playing for free or money. No sense in stealing it.

That's like telling a cop I was speeding because I enjoy it so much. I was still speeding and it's still against the law to do so.

I really enjoyed Crysis. I bought it the day it was released and have played it through twice. Heck I even bought Warhead the day it was released, paying full price for both games. I enjoy the games, but I'm still not going to pirate them.

Stealing is stealing.

No that doesnt work cause the die hard fans are customers that are going to buy the game.

No, it's like speeding on a wide open road with no one else around and visibility for miles. It might be against the law, but you're doing nothing wrong.

I would have no moral qualms about downloading a leaked game that I have already preordered. Theres a whole host of situations where I'd have no problems with something a game company would, but they'd probably charge you for watching someone else play if they could figure out how.

We're hitting on something here. In doing something that's against the law, you are by definition doing something wrong.

You can try to justify it in whatever way you want to make it seem better to you, but it's still breaking the law.

Look, I don't work for RIAA or anything crazy like that but honestly, if you want a game man up and pay for it.

No, by breaking the law you are not by definition doing something wrong. That's an absolutely childish worldview. Right and wrong isn't that neat.

By all means, if you want a game, you should pay for it. No one is saying you shouldn't.

Meh.

With all that effort into the pretty, I am worried it may not be much fun to play.
I had a much better time with Far Cry than I did Crysis or Far Cry 2.

EDIT:
Just checked. It is on the internets. They werent lying. But I suspect anyone
Take that last sentence out, eh?

I just had an argument with a friend of mine from college about this. He's part of the "I wouldn't buy it so it doesn't matter if I steal it" crowd. I pointed out that the person who smashed his car window and stole his radio couldn't afford a radio, so what else were they to do? He said that's different, it's a physical object. Making a copy isn't stealing anything. To me, as an economist, whether something is tangible or not, it has value. Your time has value, your effort has value. So when you pirate that game, it's no different than someone stealing something of value from you. Because of you, that developer's kids won't be getting vaccinations this year. He reasoned, "you mean they won't be getting ferraris this year."

And I think that captures a lot of the argument. The entitled attitude of pirates drive me nuts. It's their way of "sticking it to the man" because he's just some faceless rich guy, so it's ok to steal from him.
I understand where you're coming from, and I agree that piracy is not justifiable (not usually, anyway.) But I don't agree with your analogy there. The only way that comparison would be valid is if I were to steal the radio, reverse engineer it and build another one all on my own resources, and put it back and fix everything so that you wouldn't even know that it was gone in the first place.

EDIT: Developers are usually not well-to-do.

Just because something is illegal, doesn't make it wrong.

"In doing something that's against the law, you are by definition doing something wrong".

That's actually incorrect, and not the definition. It's a bad perspective to have.

Wasn't it at one point illegal for women to vote? Do you still think it's wrong for women to vote? What made it any less 'right' when it was illegal?

Unless you are trying to say that if something is illegal, it is wrong to break the law, even if the illegal thing being done is only 'wrong' BECAUSE it is illegal.

Let's take driving 65 in a 55mph zone. Is driving 65 on that road wrong? Probably not, especially if it is a highway. It would be 'wrong' to break the law that says driving 65mph in that zone, but it's breaking the law that's wrong, not what you are doing that is causing you to break the law.

Example? If it's wrong to drive 65 in a 55, what happens when the raise the speed limit to 65? It now becomes legal. It doesn't make it any more or less right, just legal.

Law NOT EQUAL moral
