2x multisample usually sufficiently hides jaggies for me at 1920x1200. I'll admit I think C3 looks pretty nice, but ridiculously high AA settings seem overkill.

Umm...because maybe many of us cannot afford a system that can handle it

Then lower your settings. I can't afford a Bentley, that doesn't mean they should cease to exist or that I can't buy a cheaper vehicle.

If any game takes 3 680SLI's to max out, it better look a lot better than this one. Also, I'm sick of AA and high resolution being part of 'maxing a game out'.

I want more detailed textures, longer draw distances, more interaction with objects, waving grass, rippling water, realistic movement. Who cares about TXSXMS16XAA?
THIS!

Draw distance (and environmental scope) being the most important. In every single console port that I've played, the environmental size is sorely limited by console memory. Crysis 2 felt extremely walled off, and lost what made Crysis 1 appealing in the first place.

Agreed, Crysis 2 felt extremely claustrophobic compared to Crysis/Crysis Warhead. While I don't like the look of my games with no AA at all, I rarely ever see the need to go any higher than 4x, even if my card can easily handle more.

I tried the beta on my GTX 570 SLI rig, at 1080P, 1XSMAA, All maxed, motion blur off.

With a single card the game was running at 30fps which is not to my liking, but it was quite playable still.

Turning SLI on, I got a solid 60 fps. Pretty impressive, considering that I don't recall my SLI scaling being so good before. I mean I've seen up to 80% scaling or maybe 90 but a solid 100% never. Either Nvidia has worked some magic on their drivers, or Crytek has built this game from ground up, with multi gpu in mind.

With these settings the game looks fantastic and I really don't think that motion blur has any use, if a game runs at a native 60fps anyway.

I wonder how my old 5850 CFX system will fair with this.

I care about what you offered but also care about higher resolution and flexible AA choice.

Completely agreed. How come the AA has become a part of "maxing the game" is beyond me..
And it all depends on the dpi as well..I mean for example what do I need more than 2 samples of AA on my 1440p 27 inch monitor anyway? Beyond those 2 samples I honestly have to look very hard to find noticeable differences and that only on static images. Which defeats the purpose of having this argument in the first place.
Game devs need to provide more sophisticated work with current hardware (which is very advanced for the crap we mostly see nowadays).
It's the period of time that some of us wish for the new consoles to launch quick, rather than the new gen of gpus to arrive for obvious reasons.

I took the time to test Crysis 3 beta on my old Q9550@4Ghz + 5850CFX @850Mhz (13.2 beta 4).

At 1080P, all maxed, no motion blur, no AA the game was very jerky and unplayable but the gpu usage was jumping from 50% to 70%. The primary suspect was the limited framebuffer of my 5850s and then the cpu.

I reduced the texture size to high and the game run very nicely indeed, hovering around 45fps.

The gpu usage was still around 75% for each card though and this is a clear cpu limit indication.

Indeed, monitoring my Q9550's usage, showed the game is really hammering the poor guy.

This shows how far Crytek has progressed with their code and that makes me very glad.

Speaking about cpus, my 2500k@4Ghz tested above, was easily processing the data required for 65fps and had some spare headroom as well. That makes a 2500k more than 50% faster than an equally clocked Yorkfield.

In any case, it's good to know that two 5850s, with the above settings and a faster cpu, could reach 60fps, if clocked a bit higher as well.

Just played a few rounds of the Beta. Everything on very high, 2xMSAA, 8xAF, motion blur and lens flare off, I was getting between 45-60 fps

The graphics are hardly impressive though, but I'm sure they will be quite a bit better in SP. At least I hope they will.

you obviously have never seen the game maxed out. and msaa makes the game look better not only by smoothing edges but also creates more depth to the image IMO. I play on my 46" tv and the difference between fxaa and 8 xmsaa looks like doubling the resolution

AA matters. I hate shimmering textures and features. Walking around and every power line is blinking and jumping. Looks ridiculous.

Closing necro thread (a bit late to be talking about Crysis 3 beta now).
