55fps average @ 1280x1024 seems really high considering a G92GTS won't give you more than 40fps. It could be bogus.

That Victor Wang dude who tested the card said the 9800GTX was scoring exactly to the G92GTS clock for clock so if the 98gtx gets 55 but you claim the G92GTS doesn't get over 40 then it's likely the difference can be attributed to different hardware and software (operating system, API, drivers, crysis patches) configurations and of course, a different benchmarking procedure.

its been said on the hardocp forums that the victor wang guy released similar benches of the 8800 GT and was accurate with his info when it was released. Cant say how definitive that is, but worth noting

Just a quick question - what's that program in the screenshot right underneath the crysis results, the thing that looks like a cube exploding and says "no errors detected" Is it some sort of GPU error test?

Thats ATItool from techpowerup.com. Its used for overclocking and monitoring vid card temps.

Actually, I've personally tested a stock 8800GTS with an E6600 @ 3.2GHz and it scored 44fps.

I wonder if this thing overclocks itself like the 9600 GT?

Yeah it defo will, but like ive said before its only a feature that non overclockers with a

supported Nvidia chipset that will benefit. if your gonna overclock your 9600/9800

traditionally then you would have to turn the feature off in the bios that allows for auto

PCIe Mhz increase otherwise youll end up with a very unstable system.

Mine doesnt auto overclock

Is that option even (easily) available?

I wonder if that was part of the problem with the one I just returned . . . .

Yeah just set your PCIe to a fixed 100Mhz in the bios and it should lock it at that.

I get 33.345 fps@ 1080p with a 8800GT @800/1950/2000. The 9800GTX @ 830/2050/2300 got 34.745 fps. I'm not really sure why they are coming out with this card except for tri-SLI buffs. 4% faster only which can be explained by the extra 30mhz core speed. I figured it would be at least 15% faster than mine. I was hoping it would be fast enough for an upgrade but I guess I will wait for GT200 like so many others.

6-15% faster than a 8800GTS 512 stock to stock. If you OC'd both to the max I bet it would be less.

Actually I think this is where the 9800GTX would really shine, with the much improved power circuitry on this board and cherry-picked core I think the 9800GTX would OC pretty nicely.

8800gts and 9800gtx are both vGpu limited. but the g92 core can do 1ghz if they want it to.

I'll wager a guess.

Too much.

Seriously though, i believe i saw $400 on the latest price chart leaked, which is indeed too much, but makes sense based on how overpriced the GX2 is, & the GTS 512 MB is.
