i don't know how to record fps in game, but i just installed all 3 games and they are all 100% playable for the first 30 mins of levels.

my system is exactly as in the signature

The only problem i see is something called "screen tearing" i think; where there are horizontal lines that flash across the screen every now and then during fast action...it doesn't affect the fps of the game or my ability to move/aim.

other than that i had installed these games hoping to play on med settings and get 30 fps. i'm sure i get over 50fps stable at the least; i even ran the games while extracting some files from winrar and installing another game in the background

Well, the 8800gt is slightly faster then my 8800gts 320mb @ 1680*1050, but I don't find Crysis playable at ALL at that resolution, with shadows and post processing on high. And you're statement might hold true, although I doubt it, but you're obviously running without any AA. Run Fraps if you want to see, playable means a minimum of 30fps at all times, anything less in a shooter is unacceptable if you ask me...

BTW, even in CoD4 my 8800gts 320mb slightly struggles @ 1680*1050. GoW might just run fine though, seeing it's based on the UT3 engine ...

Screen tearing is when the framerate of your graphics card is higher than your monitors refresh rate. Most people have their monitors on between 60-75Hz, meaning your framerate when there is image tearing is at least 60fps Be happy. If you want to stop the image tearing, put in vsync, either ingame, or in the nvidia control pannel. That will limit the framerate of your graphics to a maximum of your refresh rate of your monitor.

I really don't understand the point of this thread, we already knew about what is 8800 GT capable of. Is only 10% slower on average than the 8800 GTX, so how could have not been possible to run all the recent games on very high settings? But I doubt the Crysis is playable at that resolution with AA and on very high. Maybe at a lower resolution and on HIGH settings, with no AA you could get around 30 fps. I have the same card and a much slower cpu (4000+ X2 at 3 GHZ) and the game struggles at 1680X1050 even on high. Crytek says that they are working on a patch for improving performance, but we'll have to see about that.

COD4 and Gears of War, definitely.

But Crysis...PLAYABLE @ THAT RESOLUTION? Did I read that correctly?

You're burning in that new Q6600 quite nicely. Congrats on the G0.

Regarding the GT, it appears you're experiencing "buyer's ecstasy." Those shiny new components feel good, but you probably need to run Fraps as Marc suggested. If they're all playable to you, that's all that matters!

I wonder how Crysis is selling. I wonder if it's selling as well as they thought it would. I may be in the minority, but I don't want to "experience" it unless I'm playing at min 30fps with everything set to high or above. It'll come..

...not in Crysis.

hitting the tilde key to pull up the console and typing r_DisplayInfo = 1 will let you display fps in Crysis.

With my 8800GT SC Crysis is not playable @ 1680x1050 high settings (DX9), not even close. It's not bad when you're just walking around, but once you get into a battle, framerate dips below 20 FPS and no way is it enjoyable.

My real problem actually has nothing to do with FPS, though. I've noticed that even when I'm getting 50-60 FPS indoors, the STUTTERING is horrible and makes it unplayable even at 50FPS. Outdoors, when I'm getting 20-30FPS, it's the same deal. It's not the FPS, it's the stuttering.

I'm wondering if my problem could be my CPU (X2 3600+ @ 2.8GHz) or Memory (2GB DDR2-800).

I'm really not happy with Crysis, because the only way I can play it well is on Medium settings, and the game doesn't look all that great with those settings. Crysis may have more POTENTIAL graphics than CoD4 or UT3, but at the settings it takes to run the game, the graphics are pretty bad.

Call of Duty 4, I have no trouble playing maximum settings @ 1680x1050, 4xAA/16xAF.
UT3 also plays fine w/ maximum settings @ 1680x1050.

LOUISSSSS, I know its a little off topic, but do you have any pictures of your Lian Li case ? I'm trying to decide between it and the P182SE.

cevat yerli has said on many occasions that crysis benefits from a quad. if most of us on c2d's can get 25 fps then it's reasonable to assume that louissss could get 30+, esp with the quad cranked that high.

Tearing happens whenever frame updates aren't synchronized with the vertical refresh, regardless of the framerate is above, below or equal to your refresh rate.

My setup, with r_displayinfo = 1 enabled, shows "immobile" speed as ~28 FPS, and 20 - 30 FPS during gameplay.

Not overly enjoyable, but playable nevertheless.

With High everything, BTW.

I have an 8800GT and im going to give what framerates i get

I have a Q6600 @ 2.7ghz and 2gb of OCZ ram

On call of duty 4 with 2aa at 1680x1050 Max settings i get 60-90 fps (locked at 90) mostly around 80, i did notice it went down to 46 on single player when a big battle was going on but it is totally playable and you dont need more aa as even with low aa it seems to fix the jagged edges just fine

On Crysis on high settings i can either have 1680x1050 no aa 25-40 fps averaging around 33 or 1440x900 20-30 fps averaging in the high 20's with 2aa, putting 2aa on 1680 causes me to get about 8fps, i dont know why but the game really slows down when aa is enabled, maybe its my system or just the game im not sure, 30 fps doesnt hurt my eyes at all and seems playable, whereas in other games its starts to feel sluggish at 30fps

On my 8800gt and e6400@2.66, my CPU useage stays between 60-70%. However, I hardly get any change in my median low framerate when dropping from 1366x768 all the way to 848x480, so it is certianly something besides the videocard bottlenecking the system.

and to the person who asked about the case. are you seriously comparing a LL case to an Antec. haha
LIAN LI ALL THE WAY! i gotta go to work now so remind me tonight for pics

To me, Crysis plays fine at sub-30 fps.

Also, the GTS 320 loses badly to the GTS 640 and GT in Crysis, even at lower resolutions. According to Gamespot's Crysis Hardware Performance Guide:

1280x1024 High Quality:
8800GT: 32 fps
8800GTS 640: 26
8800GTS 320: 17

ok my bad dudes im' getting like 35-40fps stable. i'm used to the fast paced-high fps CS:Source and getting like 80+fps stable so i figured anything this smooth must've been at least 50+ fps.

but it is 100% playable at 30fps.

i say 8800gt or gts is not good enough to play crysis at high setting..i dont care what anybody say..30 to 40 fps at high is not good enough in my view. so...if it gets to the 70 and 80 fps then its playable..and that might have to be the next generation..hopefully...these 8800gt/gts refresh are just trash if you wanna play crysis with it

I have a measly dual core Opteron 1210 @ 2.7ghz Vista x64 and x1900XT @ 1680x1050 medium on most setting, 4xAA and Crysis is very playable. I can hardly believe that with the super high end hardware that people have, that they complain about not being able to play the game at all. lol I call BS, unless Core2Duo+ Nvidia 8800xxx really does SUCK in real world apps.

30-40 isn't playable for you? I'm ever so glad that I only upgrade every 2 years so my standards aren't that high.
