That's kinda crappy to do that. I mean we want the game experience now not later. By the time people have the system to handle 1920x1200 4xaa 16xaf you'll think Crysis looks like junk anyway compared to the games that are available then. They HAVE to make it run well on the current hardware at the time of release. Sure let performance go up as new hardware comes, but to make the game unplayable at high settings is rediculous. Like farcry, it looks good at release but runs like trash. Then by the time you can run it nobody cares about how it looks. There are better games comming out.

It is a very risky business decision.
Make an awesome looking game that very few people will be able to buy and play without serious upgrades.
Or
Make a game that looks good but works for the masses.

If it were me I would go for the latter.
Even if it pissed off the hi-end gear folks I would want to cover my finances and do the one that guarantees the survival of my company

Supreme commander was a prime example.
The game had all the buzz words they could come up with, and yet you really don't hear much about the game anymore.

I think ET:Quake wars is a good example of what developers should go for.
Its not the best looking game but it works well even on moderate hardware.

Basically, quit bitching and start saving for a 9 series GeForce.

True, except there were no where near as many people who were as hyped for FarCry as there are for this game. Not to mention the fact that even to this day, FarCry is one of the best looking games when all settings are maxed IMO.

High is not the Highest setting, there is one above it... It runs well now after a few tweaks at 1680x1050, frames don't often drop below 30.

How do you get a beta key? Do you wait for it to be offered then you click on it to get a key or is there a way to find out what days they are? I know Gamespy Comrade will tell you but is that the only way?

The problem with that? Nobody will care about the game in 8 months. Except for FPS benchmark numbers. There will always be something comming up that people refocus on and I bet won't tank in FPS on the highest end hardware. I don't see how ANY developer can afford to do this. The only excuse they can make is they want to sell the engine and that requires it to have certain features that cannot be made playable currently. Making it viable for future games when newer hardware releases.

I'm going to have to say that you really need to think about a few things. First off, THIS IS A PRE-BETA. mk? PRE-beta. I guess you could call it an alpha ? Second, how old is the 8800? It launched last November, a FULL YEAR before Crysis is set to launch. You're expecting a brand new, DX10 game to run perfectly on hardware that is a YEAR old? Third, it doesn't really run like 'crap'. I'm running it on high and have no problems. And fourth, THE OFFICIAL BETA HASN'T STARTED. Of course they don't want anything to get out about it. If you had read the site, you would know that they are planning a big announcement of it and a release of lots of media, so perhaps after that they may relax the NDA.

Oh, and an NDA is an NDA. It covers everything, not just screenshots.

P.S. if you really think it runs and looks like shit, go check out those HD videos that were posted earlier in this thread.

The fastest (that we know right now) DX10 part available should run ok...I won't say perfect but it should be playable. Here's hoping :beer:

What I'm saying is not only tied to this game but every game released receintly. High resolution is becoming standard on home PCs. Running 1920x1200 is not unheard of and in fact quite common. I think it's poor thinking on behalf of hardware and/or software developers to be unable to accomidate this resolution with playable fps. What is playable to you may not be playable to another. Again I know it's a beta, I said it before. What I'm simply saying is that after the hype I am somewhat disappointed period, end of discussion. No need to take it personal really...I don't know why people on internet forums need to take an opinion so personally. Yes the NDA is BS, they should let ppl converse with the world about performance. Maybe someone will chime in with a fix and "oh wow it works"? *shrug*

Whatever, I don't really care...I'm buying the game and have had it reserved for about a year.

Yeah I'm buying it, and I plan on buying a GeForce 9 series at launch since it's been a year since I bought my x1900 and I really want to have all these great games I'm looking forward to run as fast as possible.
