Its like Halo3 as far as I am concerned, all hype.

Fine, your opinion, but how well is Halo 3 selling and it is not even out yet?

Crysis will sell very well.

I am not saying the game will flop or won't do well.
But I do not think it will be an all time best seller.
I think what you have with Crysis is a company making an engine first and the game as second.

This isn't a bad thing, epic and Id both did this.

While UT3 has had a large crop of games appear its not really doing that well in developer circles.
Epic tech support isn't being that cooperative at times about certain request and when developers spend 500k, they get upset when there needs aren't met.
There are also some lesser known game engines that are going to be making some news releases soon that I suspect many people will be amazed by when they see them in action.

Farcry engine wasn't adopted mainly because of its difficulty to adapt in different areas. I know I would never try to design a new game around it.

I wish Crysis luck, the engine is great when its on the right hardware.

I wasn't particularly impressed with the multiplayer this game offered. Feels almost exactly like Quake Wars, & Battlefield except no classes and you purchase weapons and equipment. The environment is pretty large and foliage plays a role in moving around.

The game is just a bit on the slow side for me. I prefer a game closer to Unreal Tournament or Quake for multiplayer.

It runs fine on my system though, averaging 40fpd at 1280x1024 everything set to high in the game and 4x AA, no AF.

It reminds me a lot of world war 2 online.
The maps are large but that can be both a good and bad thing.
I think for really large maps the fps genre is going to have to come up with games that can handle much larger numbers of players on one map.
Otherwise it can be boring to run from point to point, get killed, reform and repeat.

I was talking with one of the designers of world in conflict about map size and he said that they wanted to keep the maps a reasonable size, not because the engine couldn't handle it , but because they wanted to keep the action fast paced.

I would like to see some smaller maps in crysis that are more focused for 16 players.

The mod community will have lots of things like that I bet. Just have to wait and see. Again I just prefer a faster paced game. I'm not into the team based war games with goals and whatnot.

I think UT3 has a graphical quality comparable to Crysis. People here keep assuming one thing wrong. They are assuming that the dev's would have to lower the graphical details to get the performance better. Maybe they could've used a better implementation to achieve such detail. Even if it was mentioned long ago that the game wouldn't play on modern hardware, doesn't make it right. It was wrong back then also. All I can say is that if UT3 runs better than Crysis taking minimum levels than Crytek lost respect as developers.

With that said, I'm still buying this buggy piece of crap when it releases. =)

Well, remember Far-Cry ran poorly but Half-Life 2 ran perfectly fine on older hardware and people who say Far Cry was so much better looking are wrong to be quite honest. WHat about Doom 3? It scaled well on older hardware. They didn't sell any licenses for the engine based on the fact it ran poorly at release.

I highly prefer BF2 style than the total banality of high speed arcade style fragging. I'm glad Crysis is closer to that model.

Well Halo is not like that and it's probably the most popular online game at the moment. Granted it's on a console but still.

I go online to kill stuff, I don't wanna stand around defending a base from someone for 20minutes. That is boring. I wanna run and kill someone and I do not like being limited to specific weapons based on what I pick. I wanna run and grab anything I see, maybe even grab the guy's weapon who I just killed.

It's a different gameplay style requiring faster reflexes and is more chaotic. More fun for me.

I like the blend of strategy, tension of sneaking up on enemy outposts, and the enjoyment of the kill/win as well.

I heard from female gamers that guys who just like to "pop! pop! pop!" every two seconds are well... you know

(hahah joking)

I started out with Doom over IPX networks, then Quake, Then Quake2. Then Unreal Tournament and Quake3. I kinda got stuck on that style of gameplay.

Yeah same thing here, which is why I've been playing far more TF2 than Crysis recently

Anyone know, if I sign up for a quarterly subscription right now, will I get into the beta? I go through the character verification and it gets me that far, but I don't wanna pay if I'm not gonna get in...

All I can say is save your money. It's not worth it.

It's well worth it. As of this morning, they still had Crysis keys available for subscribers.

i started to play but it was extremely laggy and i couldn't really figure out what to do. i did kill 1 enemy - i think. i definitely killed someone...and then i mysteriously blew up...

i quit palying after that. i forgot that i was downloading another huge demo so that is probably what caused the lag.

it seems too much like BF2 to me, based on my limited play time. i hate BF2.

medium settings/high water/1024x resolution
2007-09-25 07:58:51 - Crysis
Frames: 3229 - Time: 120000ms - Avg: 26.908 - Min: 14 - Max: 43

foilage aside from palmtrees looks very 2d. foilage sways too fast

its not no BF 2142 thats for sure. its alot slower to do stuff like buy tanks n stuff.
you can hide in foilage though.
die to quickly, spawns always at base

little diversity in wildlife, frogs, birds and crabs, no life underwater
explosions drop frames terribly
starting off with a pistol and barehands isnt fun, most chatters i've seen on the beta agree the assualt rifle is the best and apparantly is only weapon really used much

overall it will get boring very quickly. no hype here, move along now
