I think you can also pre-ordered Team Fortress 2, back in 2001.

Crysis will run on either DX9 or DX10 hardware but it will look much MUCH better under DX10. There are pictures floating around showing the differences. The developers have also stated that there is enough extra under the hood that the game itself will last at least 2-3 years worth of hardware into the future (i.e. there are more graphics options available than even a 8800 Ultra can handle).

That is totally untrue. I have seen Crysis comparison pics DX9 vs. DX10. Almost NO difference. SOmetime I thought the DX9 looked better.

I think DX10 looks better, and if you have a DX10 card / Vista there's no reason NOT to run it in DX10. I'm also thinking that Crysis, as the first "proper" DX10 game, will see a performance boost from using it.

I have to agree the DX10 environments are better with shaking backgrounds etc but not in DX9. However, I can't say I'd be disappointed at the DX9 experience at all. The demos still looked awesome in DX9 mode I must say. I don't know why MS don't just put up a DX10 version for XP and ease everyone's pain on this. But of course they need to make money on Vista.

For a lot of us, it has nothing to do with our bankroll. It has a lot more to do with the lack of current drivers, software & hardware support & several of us just simply waiting until SP1 is released.
So, before you make condesending remarks under your breath, try not to step on the broken glass...
Not just for Valve titles, it is an online game publishing service for any company that wishes to use it:STEAM? Isn't that for half life?

Or maybe because Vista uses a whole different Windows Driver Display Model (WDDM) that XP just isn't able to support. You can't ease the pain of having old tech, it happens to all of us eventually. The poor just complain about companies making money off it.
