So then, after the game gets pushed back multiple times because of "development issues", this game will arrive at your doorstep sometime in mid-late '08, right?

I'll pass

Watching videos of that game... looks like one of the most amazing and impressive games ever made.

A pretty good price, but I have no way of knowing if my Opteron @ 2.4 GHz, 2GB PC3200, and 7800GT will be able to handle it! I'm considering a Opteron 165 upgrade, or possibly a new video card.

I think you can also pre-ordered Team Fortress 2, back in 2001.

That is what the email from Gogamer said.

Crysis does look really great but I suspect there will be similar deals available in late august or early september.

I did notice and pick up Spell Force 2 from their daily deal for $5. I never got around to it but always meant to give it a shot considering it was reviewed better than the original which I quite enjoyed.

Crysis will run on either DX9 or DX10 hardware but it will look much MUCH better under DX10. There are pictures floating around showing the differences. The developers have also stated that there is enough extra under the hood that the game itself will last at least 2-3 years worth of hardware into the future (i.e. there are more graphics options available than even a 8800 Ultra can handle).

Wow. Some angry people in the HD forums lately.

Here are some demos of DX9 vs DX10.

Link

I currently have a 7900GT but a single core 3500+ processor. Hopefully it will run it.

That is totally untrue. I have seen Crysis comparison pics DX9 vs. DX10. Almost NO difference. SOmetime I thought the DX9 looked better.

I think DX10 looks better, and if you have a DX10 card / Vista there's no reason NOT to run it in DX10. I'm also thinking that Crysis, as the first "proper" DX10 game, will see a performance boost from using it.

did you see the DX10 vs. DX9 "jungle" comparison? DX10 was clearly better

I have to agree the DX10 environments are better with shaking backgrounds etc but not in DX9. However, I can't say I'd be disappointed at the DX9 experience at all. The demos still looked awesome in DX9 mode I must say. I don't know why MS don't just put up a DX10 version for XP and ease everyone's pain on this. But of course they need to make money on Vista.

Or maybe because Vista uses a whole different Windows Driver Display Model (WDDM) that XP just isn't able to support. You can't ease the pain of having old tech, it happens to all of us eventually. The poor just complain about companies making money off it.

For a lot of us, it has nothing to do with our bankroll. It has a lot more to do with the lack of current drivers, software & hardware support & several of us just simply waiting until SP1 is released.

So, before you make condesending remarks under your breath, try not to step on the broken glass...

I got my order in... I'm not gonna upgrade to Vista. Besides, Maximum PC ran a test with all the current games like Half Life, Doom, FEAR... Guess what? XP ran them all faster then Vista.

There is no doubt that when they tweak the drivers and Direct X10 it out for a few years it will get better and eventually everyone will upgrade. Hopefully Linux can come out with a DX version of it's own. That would be sweet but I won't be holding out for it. I'm just stoked I can run Unreal with Linux! My all time favorite. Tho, I'm a big fan of FarCry, so I had to pre order plus it comes with a poster. You could probably sell the poster and the vehicle on ebay to get half of your cash back I'm sure it will be a collectors item as I think this game will even be better then far cry witch was to me one of the best games for the PC!!! FEAR was pretty good too tho. I actually bought a geforce 6800GT just to say I could turn on all the bells and whistles for far cry. Hopefully I'll be able to run at a good clip with a 7800... Time will tell.

Absolutely true djnsmith7, thanks for speaking up for MANY of us.

I drove Vista for a week and between bad hardware and software support, weird port access (with even stranger convoluted solutions), and the ho-hum factor of Aero - I went back.

Vista is purdy, and has some cool features, so I'll try again once Microsoft gets it together; and by then the best DX10 cards will have dropped another $100 or gotten more powerful. And there should be a handful of DX10 games by then too. Right now there's no reason not to wait.

STEAM? Isn't that for half life? I don't think they are the same company, FarCry/Crysis is a different company from Germany.

Recommended Requirements

CPU: Dual-core CPU (Athlon X2/Pentium D)
Graphics: Nvidia 7800GTX/ATI X1800XT (SM 3.0) or DX10 equivalent
RAM: 1.5Gb
HDD: 6GB
Internet: 512k+ (128k+ upstream)
Optical Drive: DVD
Software: DX10 with Windows Vista

Sorry but that just sounds like a load of bullsh!t to me. If ninja programmers (who aren't paid) can make things like Wine or any of the amazing emulators out there (like PCSX2), a mega corporation like Microsoft should be able to put DX10 in Windows XP, especially when it's their API and they know how everything works.

What irks me and probably lots of other people isn't that they're trying to make money off us, but that they're trying to make money off us artificially. What I mean by artificial is that they tell us this bullsh!t that DX10 can't work under Windows XP. In addition, if it weren't for this lame excuse, I think most people wouldn't have a compelling reason to move to Vista. I think it's been proven already (correct me if I'm wrong) that Vista's UAC is inherently flawed security system. So if Vista can't even play the role of a secure operating system, what else does it have? Bloatware? No thanks.
