wouldnt you still have a shadow even while under water (assuming it's relatively clear water) since the light will refract?

He meant it wasn't moving like a swimming shadow would.

I don't think he was commenting on the fact that the shadow was there, more so that the shadow wasn't animated.

True, however just because it isn't done doesn't mean performance will be better once it is. I've noticed recently that the Dark Messiah Demo played just fine on my rig and now that I have the finished game I've been surprised with how much of a hog it is.

Nice to see that there aren't any billboards with ads waiting for them with EA involved and all.

I think the DMOMM demo's textures were locked at Medium, even if you could select High. The full game's High textures weren't present in the demo, so you're stressing your machine harder than when you were just playing the demo.

Part of the reason for the game's astronomically large size.

Except that even in the final version I can't get the High textures to stick. It uses the Medium settings just like the Demo.

It says "Bandwidth Limit Exceeded" on both URLs.

Edit: Never mind.

Re-Edit: I saw both videos. It looks cool, but the video quality isn't good enough to really tell a difference from what was shown already, in my opinion.

One thing I noticed though ... is the clipping of some trees and especially rocks underwater. They don't magically pop-up à-la Oblivion, but you can see some of them slowly come into shape as the character moves. I don't know if the in-game settings (as in the draw distance for example) were turned up to the max, but it's kinda ... disappointing, especially when you consider that it's supposed to run on DX10 and G80. Of course I'll still buy it, and will surely like it, as it ain't such a big deal, but I noticed it.

Looked good to me. If it is as fun as far cry, should be a winner in about 2 generations when hardware catches up.

Looks disappointing to me. This is supposed to be a next generation DX10 game, and it doesn't look too much better than games out today. Alan Wake looks much better IMO.
This looks like a high polygon version of farcry.

The videos were captured using a digital camera in movie mode, so you'll have to forgive the resolution etc.

Oh really? So the gameplay wasn't slowed down by any kind of FRAPs recording or anything.

In that case I'd think I'd need some SLI to really have smooth frames. It kind of hit pretty low for there being no fighting / action around.

What resolution was it at, does anyone know?

thx for the vids... it looks ok, but it's hard to tell - videos like this always add a natural blur, which smooths out games and can make them look better than they are. so, any opinions are just guesses, really...

the HDR, shadows (except the character's shadow underwater), plants and water looked pretty sweet. having said that, i can't say that it looked "next generation" sweet. it looked like far cry with bigger textures, more colorful water and more polygons. the player models, car physics and plant physics looked... underwhelming. but, again, it's a blurry video, so we'll have to wait and see.

Do I need a codec for this one, and if so, which one? Thanks

I'm getting an error when trying to view it
