With the cosntruction of my new rig completed I decided to pit it against the might machine that is Crysis and so far I have to say that I am enjoying it. There are some things that I don't like such as the fact that i need to empty a clip into a guy in order to kill him if i don't get a head shot, or that the vehicles don't handle very well in my viewpoint.

I like the idea of the suit and being able to adapt depending on the scenario. Oh, and the graphics are AMAZING!

I've heard bashing and praise from everyone but wanted to get the pulse of everyone here.

I'm struggling to get through it. Started playing it several weeks ago, then stopped after the first exposure to the robot-creature thingy. I recently started playing it again, but I can only do it in short spurts before I get bored.

The graphics are great, no doubt, but the gameplay and story just leave me wanting.

Typically when this happens to me (see F.E.A.R.) I just uninstall and sell/give away the game, but I'm hoping this will play out like it did for FarCry with me. I hated that game the first time I played it on a crappy PC, but went back and played it a year later on a much more powerful rig, so I could max everything, and ended up loving it. I liked it so much I played through it multilple times. Here's to hoping that happens with Crysis.

Farcry is one of the best shooters ever made, if you ask me. Gameplay is great, it's a long game, you can tailor your method because of all the options, and when you get nightvision, you feel like a freaking killing machine.

The only thing I could ever fault Farcry for was mediocre voice acting.

Sorry. Didn't mean to hijack the thread. I just swear by farcry.

Up until you get to the aliens it is excellent. After that its average at best. I've played through it 6 times, and I always just do the missions up to the cave part. The rest isn't worth playing IMO.

How so? I enjoyed the single player campaign immensely - many ways to approach every situation, a variety of possible play styles, AMAZING EYE CANDY, and some cool game mechanics.

For the most part I'd agree with that. I hated the Cave level very much, it was not exciting at all and very annoying as the whole place is a maze.

I think the next level, with the ice, is pretty good though. After that the game is average.

Crysis seemed like a glorified tech demo to me. I got bored of it rather quickly and never finished the campaign.

I love these "Whats your opinion on X game" threads, its fun to critique things. Sometimes, its better to start a new thread to keep less pages and hear some new ways of expressing opinions even if its all been said before.

Whether you like or dislike the game, Crysis will end up a milestone marker in history for pushing the limits of graphics beyond a level most companies or people felt comfortable with. I don't know if there is truth to inefficient coding causing the game to run even more intensive than it should; but even if that were so it still ends up in favor of the game. The challenge of running the game is a huge part of what has sold it, and will keep people talking about it after the actual play has ended. I would guess to see Crysis still on regular benchmark reviews as far as two years from now.

As for my opionion on playing the game, I think the graphics are amazing and almost everything else is definately average. The graphics really are amazing. I have been playing a lot of COD4 lately and enjoying my 50fps on all high settings. I made a comment about COD4 looking almost as good as Crysis and with double the framerate. Well, apparently I needed to go back and play Crysis again because I had forgotten just how much better things really do look in Crysis, especially foliage.

The Nano suit is a cool approach to integrating features that make the game more fun and unique than a standard military first person shooter. It also offers a keen way to explain why you as the player seem so superhuman (which is a necessary componenet to first person shooters). The Nano suit is just about the last thing I think is an above average feature and concept.

The "intelligent" AI is not noticeably smarter than any game I have played in recent times. The problem to solve is always the number of your enemies, and not their skill. The anti american things they yell are cool at first, then funny, then lame after they ALL say it in the exact same voice.

Heres the major flaws:
1.When I shoot someone in a game with 4 bullets to the chest they shouldn't go "ah" and keep walking.
2.The gunfire upclose is not realistic, and often misses near point blank targets.
3.All computer games are buggy, but there seems to be quite a lot of crashes with this title. I had never had a game give me a BSOD before this one.

All in all, its a fun and visually stunning game that will keep us talking about and revisiting it for years to come everytime we upgrade our computers.

I enjoyed it, but wouldn't play it again.
It looks great and I never had it crash.
The only problem I ever had was the tanks you're supposed to destroy in the village began to float in the sky.

I liked the first part against the Koreans.

I *hated* the ship and I didn't care too much for the ice levels either, but they weren't bad.

When I replay the game I stop at the alien ship, lol.

Excellent game aside from the alien ship (which is pretty monotonous and boring) and the aircraft carrier (worst bossfight ever).

I thought the graphics were incredible and apparently I'm in a tiny minority because I enjoyed the gameplay and the game as a whole a lot (actually played through it twice, will probably play a few times more when I get a machine that can max the game out).

After playing competitive multiplayer FPS for years, I can't force myself to play single player. Killing bots and following some contrived storyline just doesn't do it for me.

I'm playing Crysis on my new system to "test it". This is my 1st First Person Shooter game I've played, preferring GTA/Max Payne type games.
Started on easy mode and have played it to the 8th level, were I lack the skills to complete it - so far. I hated the 7th level and will never play it again!
I set up a 2nd profile and have played into the 5th level on normal mode. I love the first 4 levels. Will prolly play to the end of level 6 on normal, then try to play the first 6 levels on hard mode. Hopefully by then I'll have the skill to kill those aliens on easy mode on level 8 - lol.
Overall playing experience so far = 4 out of 5 stars.

i enjoyed it. played through the SP campaign twice so far. haven't touched multiplayer in a bit.

personally, my favorite part is the tank battle - i thought it was pretty epic

i'd recommend playing through it at least once, seeing as you own it.

I thought Crysis was fairly good, but for its time, Far Cry was a better game. I played through Far Cry a handful of times. I don't see myself doing that with Crysis.

wow at some of the replies.

i personally enjoyed the crysis 1 singleplayer experience.
sandbox2 (crysis game world editor) really rocks and will continue to improve most likely as most tech and software. what the future holds will be even more impressive.

crysis certainly has its place, among the many other PC titles.

Graphics were very good. I won't say stellar - they look amazing in screenshots, but personally, I find missing details far less jarring then details that magically pop-in. Crysis does that one a lot, just like far cry did.

Gameplay was bad. The first couple of levels, when you're fighting only the typical Koreans, is the game at it's best. Unfortunately, even that has "WTF?" portions, particularly the very odd fact that a korean can take only 1 shot to the head, but a full clip to the chest. Apparently, Korean cotton is far stronger then our native fabrics. Or nanosuits, for that manner. Later Super Duper Koreans take more damage to kill then a tank does, and don't have exposed noggins.

And much like Far Cry, once the sci-fi enemies show up, the fun factor drops through the floor.

Really, for a game that's supposed to be about being a super soldier in an ultra high tech suit, it made more to make me feel weak then anything else. Your weapons are so underpowered you might as well be using sharp sticks.

Yep, this is my view as well. The first 6 or so levels where you fight the KPA soldiers is quite fun, although the comments regarding the damage scale being a bit odd at times is spot on. 1 silenced pistol shot to the head is a kill but unload half a clip or more into someone's back and they'll frequently still keep coming. Moral of the story I guess is go for headshots - or double tap with the shotgun.

[some story spoilers]

Story was a bit of a letdown as well - on my first play when everything was new I thought for sure the nanosuits would have more of an alien tie-in. Otherwise why were the aliens going after all your teamates during those first levels? By the start of the 3rd level you'd lost 3 of your guys as either killed or captured by the aliens - why did they bother? Suits were reverse-engineered from some previously dug up alien tech I figured at the time and the recently awoken aliens were drawn to the similar tech or were somehow tracking your team with it. But nope, they're all just the standard issue military gear of the day that the KPA has apparently managed to steal the blueprints for. Hmm.

Prophet's long disappearence and where the MOAC came from was never explained, although perhaps that's where Warhead comes in. But still, it just felt very disjointed at times and didn't flow together very well.

[end of spoilers]

I've played it thru completely twice on normal and delta difficulties just to see and experience it all. I doubt I'll be going back over the final alien levels anytime soon as they are by far the weakest part of the game, although I did enjoy the carrier to some degree. More interior fights vs the aliens on the ship and less chaotic boss fights would have been a good thing. I still really enjoy the jungle fights and battles, however, so I do play the first part over again from time to time.
