Why wouldn't it be?

Vulkan and DX12 are similar, so your code base wouldn't differ much. So even if Vulkan perf can't outdo DX12 on Windows, you don't have to do much work to support both and can ditch DX11 / OpenGL.

He just made excuses for studios who've been caught creating impressive e3 demos then end up either being silent, or straight up lying when they release a game with downgraded visuals (Witcher 3, Watchdogs). That's pathetic of him. Feels like lawyer speak.

The talk about Vulkan leaves me with some hope.

can't help it. no way in hell consoles could handle the visuals. I bet even 980 ti would have a hard time. the downgrade was needed because they want console parity. I just wish they didn't get our hopes up in the first place.

Pretty much, plus he contradicts himself: 1st he goes and says:
It’s easy to blame hardware-targets when the final game isn’t quite the same – but what you are shown is a 15-minute part of the game that was built in three to six months. Meanwhile, the rest of the game’s 10+ hours are built over something in the range of 12 to 24 months
Although is kinda BS, because they don't only downgrade the assets, but the engine settings as well and then he goes on to say:

Yeah, because the 1st part about stuff you'll never get due to "not enough time" it really isn't just like stuff you don't get because "it doesn't really exist".


They've made Crysis in 2007, they showed it's possible. All else are just excuses.

Had chuckle when he asked about photogrammetry.
Crytek did use one form of photogrammetry for some of the textures for the first Crysis. (They had command line tool to which you input couple of photographs and it generated heightfield.)

Funny how times have changed. I distinctly remember people talking down about Crysis 1 saying the graphics were great but the game sucked. I remember having a great time and totally disagreeing. Now everyone has come around to the other side. Rose tinted glasses?

Well it makes sense - with DX12 you are only getting part of windows user base which migrated to W10. With Vulkan you can release games for all Windows versions, Linux, Android and in the future OSX/iOS.

They were significantly downgraded from the original E3 demo. Not only was the lighting knocked WAY back, but because nVidia wanted the game to have GameWorks, the awesome fire effects were removed and replaced with the GameWorks version, which look horrible in comparison.

It was a really good open world shooter some of the time. The problem is the rest of the game.

it was great until the aliens showed up. i still hate that level where you float around. if it wasnt for cheats i never would have played past that point, hated the level that much.

ugh, imagine playing that level in VR
