CS: Source

I used to be a huge CS player back when Beta 7.1, and 1.0 were out. Very competitive and generally could hit a 5:1 kill ratio on pretty much any server. Then I found MMO's and have not really touched a Multiplayer FPS since then. So I decided to play some CS: Source last night.

Wow - I got totally owned. I can't even kill anyone in that game. I ended with 8 kills and 36 deaths. People were able to AWP me left and right. There was one guy who never missed with his AWP. Totally owned me no matter what I did.

I just marvel a the skill level of some of these guys. I just don't know how they do it! It is kind of depressing to get totally owned. I'd be happy if I could kill one person for each death!

Oh well, just wanted to share about my getting pwned experience.

Yeah, you get rusty when you don't play for a while. Just play more often and you'll get better.

Actually, I used to be OK with Doom 1 on Nightmare, but thats the first, last and only time.

I haven't played in a loooong time. I'm sure I'd get destroyed too. I used to play it all the time too before I had a 360 and my buddies and I were all pretty damned good. Not anymore.

Multiplayer games require a level of intuition that Single Player games do not, due to the challenge of fighting other human players. You could be a god at Serious Sam by knowing how everything works, being able to deal with a large amount of monsters and projectiles at a time, and reacting quickly, but you'd still be mediocre at multiplayer games if you lacked the ability to predict your opponent's moves. Well, this is actually more true in faster-paced games like Unreal Tournament 2004 and Quake 3, since you can pretty much just get away with being able to aim really quickly and accurately in Counter Strike Source.

Those guys who awp like gods have no lives. Okay, that's a generalization, but it makes me feel better about only having a 1:1 spread most games.

It's REALLY hard to tell when somebody is cheating in CS:S, sometimes. If they're good, AND they're using map-hack/walling, it's hard to tell. They'll act nonchalant about it.

Game pisses me off... But I keep going back.

I played cs:s very heavily for a year or so. I played in Cal as well which was quite fun because it is as much about teamwork as it is about being able to aim. Of course, if the other team has one really good player you might be screwed no matter how good your teamwork is.

Unfortunately now more than ever CS:S pub servers are overrun with hackers. There aren't too many blatant ones but there are many posing as good players. One thing that helps a bit is to make sure you join a server with material consistency enabled. That blocks the average joe's material wallhacks from being loaded. There isn't any real way to escape aimbotters though except play in a league. botters especially like to use the AWP because its pretty hard to tell the good players from the hackers since just about everything is one shot one kill. most decent aimbots now have settings that smooth out the aiming motion so you can't just look for jerkiness when spectating them.

I haven't played it much in months, but I really enjoyed the game. I prefer the guns, accuracy, damage, etc. to most other multiplayer FPS's. Unfortunately, I've gotten bored of playing cs_office over and over, and most of the custom mods / servers get boring after a while (when Zombie Mod originally came out, it was a blast... now I play the occasional gun game).

I despise the AWP and play on a 24/7 cs_office server with the AWP and auto snipers disabled. Huge snipefests take the fun out of the game for me.

And I agree that there are a lot of wallhacks out there. With wallhacks it's so easy to look like you're not hacking, but just having that information of where the enemy is can give the person a huge advantage during play. I didn't know that aimbots had gotten so advanced. Usually it is always so obvious because the aiming reticule always follows the enemy dead on with no drift whatsoever.

No he just knows where to aim to hit when players come around corners etc.He always aims at head level.

Back in school when I had hours to devote each day Tribes and Team Fortress classic was domination. I'd walk out of TFC games with 10-12:1 kill ratio's. In Tribes my roomates and I could shut an entire server down.

Now when I hit a FPS I last about 3 seconds trying to figure out how to lob a grenade. When you have time to play FPS's become second nature. When you dont, you are cannon fodder.

CS beta 7.0 was the only true best form of that game. Its still my favorite till today. If WON was still up it would be great to find a 7.0 server and play.

I agree with everyone in this thread, pubs are full of cheaters, but if you find a server that is well admin'd, it can be fun again. When I started playing again after my comp went down I ended up throwing my keyboard on the floor in a fit of rage cause I sucked so bad. Now that I have a 9 month old at home, my css days are very limited, but very fun. I "try" to be that awper that everyone hates.

I liked CS 0.7 as well. I used to go around with just a Desert Eagle, and body armor, and usually did pretty well. After that they made weapons do less damage, and made the DE less accurate. I still liked the game, but completely had to change my style.

I was pretty sick at 1.5 and 1.6, but then source came along. I spectate sometimes and watch the most random shots. I don't know how prevalent hacks are these days. I haven't seen any obvious people in a while, however that doesn't mean there aren't people doing it.

The hit boxes in source were trash...I was largely into it's predecessor playing in CEVO/CAL....got as high as CAL IM with one of the local teams here...we'd win...a lot.

I played on the FNG Chicago 24/7 Office server yesterday for the first time in many months. It was P90 and M249 rape.
