Question CSGO... Play with Freesync on or off?

I have a 32in monitor w/ 75hz Freesync. I only play CSGO on my system (3600x + RX580) and it can do 200+FPS.

Why would someone want Freesync on to limit their FPS to 75hz?

Freesync doesn't limit your FPS, freesync means if your FPS DID ever fall below 75fps, your monitor would lower it's refresh rate to compensate.

My 27" 1440p 144hz monitor for example has a freesync range of 48-144hz. So it can on the fly adjust itself between 48hz and 144hz to match my framerate.

if my framerate is constantly above 144fps, then it will stay at the maximum of 144hz on the monitor. However in games where my framerate drops below 144fps, my monitor will also drop, as far down as 48fps. This avoids screen tearing and stutter that you'd get otherwise with a constant 144hz refresh rate.

The short answer is that freesync has a smoother experience that eliminates tearing. Cap fps to keep it in that range if possible. If you want the lowest lag possible you would leave it off but you need 3x (or more) the fps than the refresh rate to get this benefit.

Blurbusters has a multi-page article covering gsync/freesync and it's worth reading!

my monitor is only Freesync 75hz. I guess there is no benefit to turning it off, always leave it on? in CSGO @ Max settings, I get 150+ fps consistently...
My monitor does have some benefit from turning it off in games where I get more than 144fps.

My monitor has anti-motion blur, which reduces smearing during movement, but the feature only works if freesync is turned off. So in CSGO, i generally have freesync off and anti-motion blur turned on.

I play mainly older games that can guarantee 150 fps and i found with my new VG245H which is freesync capable that out of all the sync options, fast sync for me has been working flawlessly. From what i understand, free wouldn't been the solution to my issue most likely anyways as i despite any input lag from caps or vsync enabled. Fast feels like there is like none honestly.

For my other main game being a heavily modded GTA V, i will prob enjoy the cinematic appeal of the game on my 40'' Samsung tv with combined xbox controller and just leave the fast paced shooters to the monitor. COD WW2 certainly needed this monitor,on my 7700k the game likes to hitch quite a bit at times cause its pegging my cores with some 200+ frame stuff. Built in limiters cause more troubles then fix and this monitor was the fix. Locking in fast locks in a steady 150 more or less has never felt so smooth EVER.

Anyone at least on nvidia with a 75hz version of a 1ms freesync panel needs to try fast sync in the nvidia control panel. The 144hz models may honestly be harder to run fast as its more or running best if you manage a 288 frame rate while the 75 may be best to help lock in that 150. i swear its been the smoothest experience PERIOD in gaming for me at least. Your mileage may vary.

There is some benefit to leaving the tech off and letting the fps fly for twitch gaming. In this scenario you can be sure the monitor is receiving the absolute newest data, even if a partial frame.

There's simply no method for the monitor, driver, and GPU to calculate and display the newest whole frame with such a low latency.

Yeah i went back to this as honestly i rarely see tearing that bugs me. I just will keep it enabled for COD WW2 via profile cause like it does stutter and peg the 7700k without that 150fps/fast sync option enabled. Then the game runs absolutely beautiful barely pegging the 7700k.

Having ran the game on the 8700, stutter simply isn't a issue ever in that game no matter what the heck is going on. Gonna be running a 3700x hopefully soon.

As a former ama-pro CS player and a current player, I can highly suggest leaving it off. Also, run the game at the lowest resolution size, in my case 1280x720. Player models will be the largest and easiest to hit at that point
