CSS style sheet question

Below is my code for an upcoming site. I will be using a true style sheet. None of that inline junk. Heres the problem...when I load the first page, my background image won't load even though it's in the same directory. If it were written correctly...it should apply the background image (here it is background.jpg) to every page on the site. Also note, I've added the Link tag on every page so far in place of the <head></head> elements. Everything else works like a charm...everything except the background. I've tried every possible syntax immaginable, obviously, except for the right one. Can anyone tell me what the problem is?

Here's how to get the background image to work:

background-image:url(background.jpg);

see what you were missing now?

you can also include these attributes to control the bg image:

background-attachment:fixed;
background-repeat:no-repeat;
background-position: top right;}

BTW: just curious as to why you referred to inline scripting as "None of that inline junk."
I prefer to use external style sheets too, but I can see where inline would have it's uses. I've read that some servers don't allow for external scripting files. And sometimes I've used inline scripting when there wasn't enough style sheet properties being used to really warrent an external file. Sometimes it's easier to just place a few snippets of css into the header of the document.

Good point. But from what I can tell, most of the push from the "education" and "market" sides respectively are to embed style sheets. Plus, with my personal use, I prefer external embeds over inline hands down. Seems to me like a redundant waste of time to use both in my opinion. Plus...taking on the attributes of a C++ guy, the re-use of code is MUCH easier with an external file. You make one, and viola, you're all set. Plus as times goes on, you do 1 site, then another, and another, and before you know it, you've got a 5 MB CSS external file. Honestly, I was spouting off at the mouth. If you're constructing a simple page, it would behoove you to use inline scripting rather than fool with an external file. MHO of course...

Okay I see your point. I have plenty of similar rants about the web design world as well. And "the re-use of code is MUCH easier with an external file. You make one, and viola, you're all set," is exactly why I like using external css!
