I'm feeling a little homesick for some good old-fashoined CTF, Jedi Academy just isn't cutting it for me. I'm going to buy UT07 when it comes out, but what would be a good game to hold me until then? It's almost impossible to find a good game of Q4 CTF, do people still play Q3? What about UT04? Or is it a wasteland right now and I should just wait for 07?

I had alot of fun playing CTF in UT'04... Im sure there are still people playing it... Lately (until UT07 comes out), Ive been occupied with BF2... But that has been after a rather lengthly layoff from it.

If you have HL2, there's a CTF mod that's really fun and enough people are using it to always have a game.

For more current games, I'd pick UT 2004.

I have to admit, my favorite CTF matches took place in Quake. (The original, not Q2/3/4)

Yep, nothing has beaten Threewave CTF for Quake 1. That started my hardcore online gaming days.


For present games, as mentioned, UT2004 and HL2 w/ CTF mod are probably your best bets.

LMCTF for Quake 2 was and in my opinion still is the best CTF ever. To bad no one plays it anymore, although I did see servers up last I checked.

They redid LMCTF for Quake 3 I think it was and no one was playing it.

I've been fiending for some good CTF action too - the HL2CTF mod is OK - there are only a handful of servers with people on them so sometimes they are empty when you want to play and there is no where to go. The mod still needs some work in my opinion too. There is a server-side CTF variant for HL2DM that some servers run, I've been playing that a lot of it's pretty good - just sort by mapname and you'll see some prefaced by "ctf_". I've yet to find anything that compares to CTF in Q1 & Q2 - that was the golden era of CTF

We have bi-daily CTF games on Quake 3 here at work and I have a lot of fun with it.

q3 ctf is alive and well. The OSP mod is where it is at (the highly competitive games anyway) but if you havent played in awhile you may want to start with regular quake -- the 'l33t' q3 OSP players are very unforgiving=)

Quake 3 or UT2k4 are the only games with really good CTF maps and players. It shows because so many people play these games even though they are many years old.

quake3 ctf maps are good. The 20 something ctf maps that 3wave released for q3 are superb. those mappers are pros 4 sure. that added a lot to the success of q3 ctf.

nice to see some old qwctf, q2ctf players here. I do miss rocket bunny hopping and grappling hooks. anyone played on yyz server? I will try that Q3 OSP mod and hopefully BF2 hasn't corrupted whatever's left of my quake skillz. I've been looking for something that will make me quit BF2 and CS type of games once and for all.

lol kewl gl you can get some nice configs @ http://www.cyzer.net/configs/. Enemymodels (make all enemies appear as a certain model e.g. keel) and enemycolors (make enemy appear a certain color e.g. bright green) is key. use all seeing eye to browse servers and filter by osp. pm me if u want some help.

CTF mod for BF2 works good, and is fun. There are only a few servers going, but at least the people usually gravitate together so there's enough to make it fun. (less that 4 per team is not enough to cover the map and one team ends up running away with it). Get mod at http://www.desert-conflict.org/

I wonder what'll be announced at E3 in this regard. CTF is the only mode that allows me to enjoy playing deathmatch style games like UT and Quake.

TF2 and TFC:S have been on the horizon for some time. I assume both of those will have CTF.
