CTR vs LCD

alrite i dont know terribly much about either of these,but im looking for a monitor which basically is of reasonable quality that has a resolution of 1600x1200...

now that basically means a 20" LCD,or a 19" CTR

the 20" LCD = $935

the 19" CTR = $280

(note these prices are in NZ currency...)

so after looking at these numbers i think u can assume which one i want,but is there really any advantage that the LCD's have over the CTR's ,that i should be aware of,or that could effect me???

By the way its CRT which = Cathode Ray Tube

Don't compare a 20" LCD to a 19" CRT, the visible screen on the CRT is much smaller, if you want to go down the CRT route (space allowing) go for a 21 or 22" one.

That price difference looks rather drastic.....so much so that I would probably pick a CRT even though I'm a big proponent of LCD's personally. If you are not concerned with size and weight, the main advantages to an LCD is crisper text, a display type with no flicker (that I and many others feel is easier on the eyes over long periods of time), less heat output and power consumption, perfect geometry from center to corner of your display, and a larger screen then a comparable CRT (for example, a 19" LCD has a larger viewable area then a 19" CRT).

19" CRT is 18" viewable so what would the cost of an 18" LCD be in NZ ?

CRT pros:

1. Deeper blacks...better color....great for gaming
2. Much Cheaper
3. Can change the resolution and it doesn't suck
4. Heavy so you get strong while moving it
5. Eats up more desk space so you do less work per day because other employees can't pile on more paperwork.
6. Last longer generally
7. no dead pixels
