CTRL-ALT-DELETE 'n' WIN-XP

First off i'm not sure if i'm in the right forum or if i should be elsewhere.....

I play Half-Life/Counter-Strike and and run Half-Life in Win98 compatibility mode. I have to run it under this mode because i use a3d for my sound. When i exit my game i have to Ctrl-Alt-Del and end task on hl.exe, if i don't do this, and cannot enter another game. It loads another hl.exe but both exe's stay in task manager. Also most web sites will not load until i've ended task on hl.exe and i cannot send or recieve e-mails either. When i've disabled compatibility mode everything works fine, but, a3d will not work when compatibilty mode is disabled. The bonus of a3d is worth this pain for the duration of my playing days, but i'm taking a shot in the dark that somebody might have the awnser to this, as i'm never quite happy until my Half-life is working perfect.

512Megs PC-100
Santa Cruz sound card
40gig Seagate
Win-XP-Pro

i'm also not the only one with this problem and i'm sure the awnser lies somewhere in compatibility mode and not a conflict with hardwear. I consider myself extreamly up to date with Counter-Strike and could not solve this problem through help of online playing friends.

It looks like the future is not bright with Aureal gone. I bought a Hercules Game Surround Muse XL card (less than $20 on Pricewatch) and it works great with XP.

Not always an advocate of spending money, but you've got a nice system and it may be worth it.

i had the same problem

just run in compatibility for Win2K instead of WinME... no performance drops and it gets of this problem!

Up top click "profile", scroll down and just below the "signature" box is a link called "Symbols"
