i love how everyone blames the fan for the cubs screwing up.

well Cubs fans CAN'T blame Prior.

after all he is the reincarnation of EVERY great pitcher in the history of baseball.

the fact that he CHOKED just won't register with cubs fans. they HAVE to blame this stupid fan.

Absolutely! I mean after all... Prior only gave them 7 1/3rd great innings in game 6. What a fvcking weasel he is. Way to mail it in Prior!

Oh wait.. I'm just talking out my ass. Same way you are. Only difference is my comments are intended as a joke and yours are just a joke because they're so ignorant.

Btw, before you call me a homer or anything like that I'm an M's fan.

7 1/3 innings doesn't win a game. Dusty is partly to blame but Prior and Gonzo deserve a lot of it. Prior has come through in this situation a lot this year and Cubs fans have gotten used to it. Both Mark and Dusty knew that the entire bullpen was falling apart and that Prior was our best hope. That is all.

p.s. Sorry to hear you're a Mariners fan

That would just make him feel worse. I really hope they lay off the poor guy. It wouldn't surprise me if all the stress killed him or led him to do something tragic. And that would be very sad.
thats what i was thinking. i wouldnt be half suprissed to read that the guy commited suicide or something. there are a lot of papers/news shows/webpages blaming the guy. claiming its all his fault. when it was just the cubs choking agian.
The broadcasters were saying during the game that he had to have his phone disconnected at 8 am this morning. I can only imagine what could happen tonight as a result of the idiocy of drunken and/or overzealous fans. Poor guy. -Tom
I remember fearing for the guys life yesterday as the Fox Broadcasters were talking about all the insane things happening in sports lately. With so much at stake, it woudln't surprise me at all if some idiot did something stupid to the fan.

The Alex Gonzalez's error was the biggest blow to the Cubs. Not the fan.

Who cares. It's just baseball. Now that football and hockey are underway, baseball is out the window...

I don't think Prior deserves much blame for the collapse. Wood yes, Prior no. He was obviously running out of gas at that point in the game so you have to point the finger at Dusty for leaving him in so long (both in game 6 and in the earlier blowout). That guy couldn't manage a pitching staff to save his life.

I just hope none of those Cubs pitchers need arm surgery after all this...

Dusty left Prior and Wood in longer than expected because his bullpen just SUCK. Game 1 could have been won but Joe Borowski meshed it up. Mark Guthrie gave up that HR to Lowell in Game 1 for the loss. Dave Veres was worthless. Kyle Farnsworth was probably the most effective but he still gave up critical hits and runs. It makes sense that Dusty Baker would leave them in longer than one would expect.

Plus, it's already been proven that Josh Beckette owns the Cubs. Even after coming back on 2 days rest, he only gave up a meaningless solo homerun to O'Leary.

Next year, the Cubs need to focus on getting some quality relief pitchers. Having another quality starting pitcher would be great too to go with Wood/Prior combo.

The Cubs were so mentally owned by the Marlins its sad. It was like the 'Little Engine That Could vs. Stuart Smalley".

his bullpen just SUCK.
Yes, it was crap, but you have to go to the pen eventually. You can't just keep flogging your starters (who were already well over career highs in innings pitched) indefinitely...I don't care how big they are, eventually they're going to lose it.

Obviously there was no way Prior was going the distance, so why not put a reliever in there in the 8th inning instead of the 9th? If he does the job then he'll probably be good for a second inning anyway, and if he sucks then you haven't lost anything because he would have sucked in the 9th anyway. Make sense?

Agreed...it's clearly the number one area they have to address.

I disagree here. To me it just looked like Zambrano just tired at the end of the season. I still like him as a #3 starter and I think most teams would love to have him in that spot as well (sure he's a spazz, but Wood isn't exactly Mr. Consistency either).

I'd say a #5 starter to replace Estes is a bigger need.
