Cuda DIY project #2 Hanging a punching bag in the garage. *with pics*

Looking at those pictures, the beams going the long way across my garage are about 23 inches apart. The long beam going across the other beams is a bit confusing to me. I'm not entirely sure what its purpose is or what it is holding up, but it is in about the perfect spot for my bag to hang from and be in the near middle of my garage (which is ideal). Not sure if I can somehow use that beam and maybe another 2x4 to drill into?

Pretty sure it won't actually notice the extra 120ish pounds unless the house was build poorly.
Just attach it properly and there should be no problems, well assuming it wont end up rubbing against the wood with how its set up.

Yea the constant pounding and stress is not normal duty though, and replacing one of those big beams is ugh.. $$$.
Why risk it?

looking at the pics he doesn't have any huge beams, just regular 2x4 or whatever, you'll have to distribute the load across several at the very least. big roof beams are like 6 by 12 or whatever.

Would it be easier/safer to just add some beams specifically for this purpose?

Run something like a 4x4 across those 2x4s, screw it down and mount the bag to that.

Run a 2x6 (on edge) across three of those 2x4's and hang the bag from the center. Make sure to actually mount the 2x6 and not simply lay it up there.

How should I mount the 2x6. Screw it from the top down into the 2x4's its laying across?

well they do have all sorts of steel structural bracket type metal things for such connections at the hardware store... better than just a simple screw probably
