Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (KB824145) alters scroll by page?

I just installed this critical update and it changed the behaivor of scrolling by page (clicking the space on the scroll bar) to by two pages at a time.

Anyone else have this happen after this update? I tried reinstalling it in hopes it would correct it but it didn't. Uninstalled it and the scroll by page goes back to functioning as it always has, one page at a time.

Any chance someone knows the registry setting I can manually change it to one page at a time again?

I've seen it here too. It doesn't seem to jump two pages, but it seems to overshoot a bit
on some scrolling actions.

Actually, I just now noticed that it appears to depend on how close the cursor is to the
bottom arrow on the scroll space when you click. If I have the cursor close to the scrollbar
then it seems to jump normally. If I have it close to the bottom arrow, it slides all the way to the
bottom (and the same in reverse). Possibly a new undocumented "feature" to enhance
fast scrolling?

They say "feature" I say bug. Completely ruins the point of scroll by page and leaves one with having to scroll by lines or alter the scroll wheel to go by page. Either way, I won't be installing the patch because of it unless I can find where to change it in the registry.

It's not possible to contact MS about this short of paying money right?

Whenever my automatic update tries to install this "patch," I get the following error message:

The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP. . . .The software will not be installed. Contact your system administrator.

Kind of bizarre that I would get this error message from a Microsoft patch of its own OS, huh?

Anyone have any ideas what this means?

As a heavy wheel mouse user, I have yet to feel the effects of this bug. Sure, if I actually use the scrollbars on the side, I can see the bug in action, but that darn wheel makes it a non-issue for me.

There is an issue with this. I saw someone post a link to some forums on yahoo, that had some people trying to deal with this problem. I didn't read through it to find out if someone had an answer. So it does happen.

This is a known issue with the patch. Microsoft should be releasing an updated patch in the next few days. Do a search under Google for KB824145 and scrolling and you'll see quite a few questions about this in the MS newsgroups.

Bradley where did you download the patch from? I've installed it on 10 XP machines and 100s of 2k machines and have never seen that. You sure you downloaded it from Microsoft's site?

The patch came through not only the automatic windows update download, but also Microsoft's Windows Update site. The patch has tried to install some eight or so times. However, tonight it came through the automatic update download again, but it installed successfully. I wish I could replicate the errors, but I cannot now.
