Curious whats **REALLY** in device manager? Check this out....

Read through this first before trying this.

Buddy of mine just told me about this:

1) Open up a command windows (run --> "cmd") and type this in:

"Set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1"

2) Run> "Devmgmt.msc" (Device Manager)
3) Go to "view> show hidden Devices". Then look through and find all the greyed out devices.


I beleive these are leftover drives and what not that windows is loading up each time you boot. So, right click and uninstall should get rid of the junk.

Anyone else tried this before? Worked for me on this sytem.

You have a clean system. Fresh install maybe? Not installed new parts? I persoanlly had a few monitors in there

I had 7 scanners and a bunch of drives, but I'm not sure that this really hurts Windows.... But it is interesting to see.

Well, it certainly doesen't speed it up.

I don't think it actually loads the drivers for the non-active devices though...... does it??? That would be retarded.
