I know it would be stupid, but im seriously considering selling my MBA to pick up and Ivy Bridge MBA when they come out. The only downside to SB was its graphics, and after reading AT's preview, im impressed by how it performed.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5626/ivy-bridge-preview-core-i7-3770k\

I dont really game or anything on my MBA, but having the option to would be awesome. Right now i can play team fortress, but not much else.

The smarter decision would be to stick with my current one as there is no real need to upgrade, but now im considering it.

According to traditional resale values, how much more would i really be losing by selling the current MBA before the newest one comes out?

example (just guessing on prices)
bought for 1200 sold for 1000 -200 (2012)
again -400 (2013)
again -600 (2014)
again -800 (2015)
again -1000 (2016)

So if i follow that logic, If i spend 1000 over 5 years, ill have the newest macbook every year. As opposed to using this for as long as possible, and then spending 1200 on a MBA with no credit coming from selling the old one.

Does this make sense? Or am i just trying to justify getting a new MBA?

Haha I've entertained these thoughts before though I thought about selling mine and getting 13" MBP or trading it for 11" MBA. I've got the 2010 13" MBA. Eventually, I want a tablet to replace my MBA. I use my MBA from my bed and occasionally move from room to room and a tablet would be more ideal and comfortable to use. Besides for what I do (web browsing, listen to music, watch tv shows), it feels almost like a waste to have spent so much for it haha

Not really. I still get good battery life, it's still blazing fast for my use, and I don't game so the GPU upgrade isn't a big deal to me.

Now when it comes to the iMac update, I'm certainly holding out for it to hit. But that's for the glimmer of hope that they update to USB3 on there. I'm not convinced in the adoption of Thunderbolt and want to make sure there's a good accessory update path over the next 3-5 years with the newer USB ports being on it.

If mac users cared about graphics, apple would have bought/contracted out llano. Apple could have gotten an exclusive contract with amd, and ate up the entire supply leaving nothing for anybody else. Hell, apple could just buy amd and make their own propriety APU. They could even strip out the x86 and replace it with something roughly equivalent. Since they'd be a completely vertically integrated developer, they could easily do it.

Nobody can get an Ivy Bridge processor right now, so what's the point in being jealous?

I'd imagine that Apple will have new models around the time it comes out around June/July.

If you need the computing power and new graphical power then don't wait. CPU prices only come down once they are obsolete, so it is never a bad time to buy. With Mac, sell it as soon as you are wanting to upgrade to maximize the great resell value they have.

My new 11" air is honestly the first time I ever thought my computer was faster than it needed to be.

I thought the MBA refresh will probably end of this year? (instead of mid year)

This. Mountain Lion is also due around the same time.

Really. What's equal to that that's non-x86? The truth is even though AMD is significantly behind Intel, noone else ever came close to them.
