As far as I can tell, the current "hot letter" of the alphabet is the letter "x" (probably from the X-files". We have hardware X-box, 'True X', 3dfx (RIP), GXP hard drives in several flavors, X15; and software: Windows XP, Office XP, etc. Notice that everything is the "professional" version now...there are no amateurs who use software, I suppose.
So, I predict the use of X for memory..."XDR" will sweep away DDR and SDRAM; for video cards, just imagine the preview hype associated with the NVIDIA "X" card, and, not to be outdone, we will have Intel/AMD (or AMD/Intel if you prefer) releasing the "X-chip" to motherboard manufacturers in 2002. Of course for many of these, one can have subsequent versions X-1, X-2, X-1013 etc.
But, the real power jump will come with the beginning use of the letter "Z", made famous by the Nissan 240Z. If I recall there was even a 240ZX and SX, etc. You get the idea. A "Z-chip" on a "Z-board" with a "Z-video card" would blow away the competition...except of course for the anticipated release of the "Omega" designated hardware/software in 2005. And on and on...
So, what letter do you envisage for the next round??
