So every time I watch Sportscenter now I have to see that free triple score .com commercial where they apparently take people off the street and have them say free triple score .com over and over until I get a headache.

How about the credit card debt relief ones where they use Obama?

OMFG...I almost want to ban watching ESPN until they agree to take that Sh!t off there.

IIRC ESPN is super expensive for the cable companies and all viewes subsidize it. Combine that with how bad it is (ESPN radio isn't too bad) and I say we wrap it up in a blanket, put the blanket into a concrete block and send it to the bottom of the ocean.

You forgot the most useful tactic: Turning off the TV entirely.

If you wanna watch sports you need to accept the fact that all they are today is a huge commercial enterprise. Nothing more. They stopped being athletic competition a long time ago. The NFL in particular is keen to try to keep the illusions of history, sportsmanship, honor, tradtion and family values, but its all bullshit. Its designed to keep you watching as much as possible so they can demand top dollar for ad time.
And apparently, its working.

What's that? It's the money you could be saving with Geico.

WTF? A stack of bills with eyes? No one I've talked to has any idea WTF those commercials are supposed to be.

I miss the lizard, he was cool.

Also, I cannot STAND THAT FUCKING RED HAIRED wise and beautiful woman IN THE GOD DAMN PROGRESSIVE SPOTS!!!

The only TV watching I do is in the cafeteria during lunch and at my local hangout after work, and I have already been tired of that chick for about a year.

I don't get too worked up over commercials, but the Levi's commercials with some spoken word BS and intermittent drumbeats make me hit mute.

well kiss my grits, I came here to say this.

I've become very sensitive to screamy advertisement noise over the last couple of years. GF has always had an issue with that, and after spending enough time watching shows with her, it's affected me permanently as well.

I can no longer abide commercial breaks without scrambling for the mute button.

have you ever been to an NFL game, and noticed the "referees" on the sidelines with the red gloves?

well, they aren't "official" or anything, but whenever they toss those crimson mitts in the air, the game stops. immediately. no real timeout. it's time or ads.

Sadly, they have more control over the game than anyone else on the field.

I don't really get them, either.

I also hate marketing in all forms. I use DVR for that very reason. I feel very strongly about my hate for commercials on tv, I truly believe they are stealing my life away.

Worst of all is how with my cable provider most commercials are MUCH louder than the actual tv show. I have even complained to my cable provider but it's very apparent and very annoying, enough that we sometimes will turn it down. That is assuming we aren't watching on dvr, which we normally are doing.

I've never been to a football game, so I dont know much about what actually goes on out there on the field.
But I do recall Any Given Sunday, and one of the lines that stuck with me was Al Pacino complaining about the first time they stopped play to go to a commercial. Thats when the sport went to hell.

yup.

In NCAA sports, they're called "official timeouts" and always occur every 4 minutes, iirc, at the first dead ball (B-Ball and Football, no?). They exist only for advertising and as such, only occur during televised games. it's funny, I remember going to all the football and basketball games in college and of course there were no "official timeouts" during games that were un-televised. Then, attending games that were on TV, you have all these extra stoppages of play. For 2 freaking minutes, the players just stand on the field and wait, doing nothing. It's not a real timeout, so they can't really discuss strategy and call plays (as far as I know). It's totally fucked up.

But in the NFL, those with the red gloves dominate all at their whim. You'll never see them on TV. You have to be in the stadium to spot them. You may notice how stoppages during a broadcast are completely abrupt sometimes, with no explanation whatsoever. Sometimes we have to go to break before kickoff, after kickoff, whatever. sometimes not. At least in the NCAA you know that the TO is coming, and most announcers will mention it. There is no such visibility in the NFL

it seems to me that the commercials fall before kickoff, after kickoff and every change of possession and of course any team full timeout. i don't recall seeing official timeouts during a series.

oh, and i hate all commercials, i try to start games and programs late now so i can skip them.

but certainly progressive commercials, freecreditreport, target and all the commercials that feel the need to have some ridiculous generic rock song as background music top the list.

Commercials? What commercials? (I own two TiVos). It boggles my mind that anyone is willing to watch live TV.
