Being under the influence and rather superlative when I posted it - I stand behind what I wrote and don't respond to one line remarks from trolls.
I'm surprised that the 700 USD +8 USD Shipping Gigabyte Windforce 290x manage to sell out at that price.
People are crazy.
I picked up an XFX Edition R9 290 980MHz from Amazon for 434.99 on Sat for a new build. I was hoping to get a 280x but these were almost the same price. I will see if I can stand the noise. If not I think I might resell and opt for the 780 or 770. It has been a long time since I have had an nvidia card.....
People paid $1k for Titan, 7990, GTX690...
Are you really that surprised?
Yes, as the 290x is not the fastest card either stock or OCed for gaming.
This was likely some overzealous crypto miners with fantasies of 1200 kh/s or something.
MSI R9 290 Gaming card listed on Newegg US $579.00, but shows out of stock at this time.

What's with these cards getting to retail before reviews even come out for them? (Referencing the Gigabyte and MSI cards)
I guess they are flying them in from China by air?
If you could buy the tri-x (290) today for $525, would you do it?
Another review of the 290X Tri-X Link
On par with 780TI.
Hmm, actually faster in 3 of the six games, loses 1 and essentially draws 2 and just with a 40MHz oc. Just saying :ninja:
That's a stock Ti so I don't think that is a completely realistic test, but the Ti is more expensive (outside the US) so I guess it still is impressive.
I dont know why custom cards dont add way faster memory than reference. At that speed its bottlenecking pixel output rate (yes it has 64 ROPs but attached to low speed memory). Also 320Gb/s might be slow for 2816 shaders.
