Being under the influence and rather superlative when I posted it - I stand behind what I wrote and don't respond to one line remarks from trolls.

My Sapphire 290 has shipped and is supposedly on the way. £325/$535 with BF4.

Now to wait for Dell to release their 28" 4k.

I picked up an XFX Edition R9 290 980MHz from Amazon for 434.99 on Sat for a new build. I was hoping to get a 280x but these were almost the same price. I will see if I can stand the noise. If not I think I might resell and opt for the 780 or 770. It has been a long time since I have had an nvidia card.....

Make a custom fan profile and use it while gaming. It's only when running Furmark or mining or otherwise giving the card stupidly high load that it becomes unbearably loud. During gaming my XFX reference 290 wasn't bad at all.

The Sapphire Tri-X 290 looks to have taken care of the major drawback of the reference card...the cooler.

People paid $1k for Titan, 7990, GTX690...

Are you really that surprised?

Yes, as the 290x is not the fastest card either stock or OCed for gaming.

This was likely some overzealous crypto miners with fantasies of 1200 kh/s or something.

What's with these cards getting to retail before reviews even come out for them? (Referencing the Gigabyte and MSI cards)

I guess they are flying them in from China by air?

They want to get them out on the market but the pricing looks like it will be awhile before if and when I get one. At this point I'd go with that card I just posted $$ in the other thread (if I needed one now) before I'd buy one of these cards at these prices at this time. I got a extra good deal on a 770 so when these prices come down I'll either sell it or ebay it and then maybe make the move to a AIB 290.

No, its essentially $100 overpriced. Custom models normally are $0 to $25 more than reference designs.

Here I can get all the recent Radeons at MSRP and its been that way since launch, most stores sell them as fast as they get in stock as well, but stores don't hike the price up like in Newegg or Amazon for the USA.

Hmm, actually faster in 3 of the six games, loses 1 and essentially draws 2 and just with a 40MHz oc. Just saying :ninja:

That's a stock Ti so I don't think that is a completely realistic test, but the Ti is more expensive (outside the US) so I guess it still is impressive.

Actually, the point I wanted to make is that a stock 290X=stock 780TI and NOTthe Titan like some 780 owner is claiming on this very thread

I dont know why custom cards dont add way faster memory than reference. At that speed its bottlenecking pixel output rate (yes it has 64 ROPs but attached to low speed memory). Also 320Gb/s might be slow for 2816 shaders.

Remember Cgn 1.1 is far more efficient with same bandwith than 1.0. Its one of the major differences.

Look eg at oc memory results for 280x vs 290x. 290x gains practically nothing even though it should be more bandwitht constrained than 280x. But the oposite is true.
