Has anybody had custom shower glass/brackets made? I'm considering expanding and replacing my current shower pan/panels and there's no way I'll find something on the shelf to exactly fit the space I have. I'm just wondering where I should look and what kind of price to expect? I need an neo-angle setup with a ~24" door, 18" side panel, and a partial height (~54") side panel that's 38" long.

Can't guesstimate a price, but it ain't gonna be cheap. Shower glass has to be tempered glass...can't just cut that at your local hardware store.

Call up glass companies in the city. They're the ones where you'd order the glass, and probably have them install it.

We just redid our master bath and ordered a custom 54" x 57" frameless glass splash panel with square oil rubbed bronze brackets. Glass is clear, 3/8". $760 installed.

They didn't offer me any lube.

Sounds about right.

I absolutely love the bathroom model in one of the showrooms I was at. I inquired about a lot of the stuff in the construction of it. Custom glass panels for the shower surround - $1500. That made me really think, "ouch", since outside the jacuzzi tub, it was probably the most expensive component of the bathroom. Edit, thought about it. The shower surround was by far the most expensive part of the bathroom.

Frameless glass shower enclosures are $$. We have a similar size to what you describe, though ours is square, no angle. Spent I think ~$1200.

Just find a local glass shop to give you a quote.

I got a company to laser measure my shower and it cost $1500 installed for a 3x7x0.5 panel and a 3x7x0.5 door. This is a frameless setup. No nooks and crannies for mold to hide and build up.

yeah, they'll come and measure the dimensions, then make them and come install them.

I wonder if standard sizes cost a lot less? Since I'll be building everything, it's not too difficult to get within about 1/16th inch (allowing for slight variation in thickness of whatever I attach tiles with)

pre-emptive edit: I was going to use Schluter Kerdiboard. Holy shit that stuff is expensive. Else Lowes moved a decimal over. 32x48x1/2 = $700?!

IIRC one of the local big box hardware stores here had shower glass and doors in pre-cut sizes.

My contractor used drywall and Kerdi membrane. No issues. The base was the Kerdi shower kit.

Standard size enclosures are generally pretty thin glass, 1/4" or less. The really nice frameless enclosures with the 3/8 or 1/2" glass are always custom made in my experience. The reason is they have to fit the glass to the opening, and they can't adjust it after it's tempered, so it has to be right on.

I just checked out the Schluter Kerdiboard you mentioned. I don't see any reason to choose it over Hardibacker or mortar. On wood framing I generally install tile over mortar, it's easy to get a flat, plumb surface, and will last pretty much forever. I should note that I don't like new technology when I have to warranty it. I'm a very big fan of proven methods and materials.

I had watched an installation video & loved the ease & amount of time that could be saved with installation. I'll go with a membrane of some sort, then hardibacker.

Doc, not that it makes it any cheaper...but that package apparently includes 18 sheets of backer board.

One thing I learned with frameless showers, you should splurge on the curb and make it a single solid surface. If you use tile instead, water can leak underneath the door seal via the grout lines. My guest bath has a solid marble top on the curb and it perfectly seals with the door.

Dang, and I thought my $550 installed euro shower door thing was pricey. About 6' x 7'...
