I sold a MiniSD card to someone a week ago. I packaged it inside a normal evenlope and mailed it via USPS for 52 cents. It would have been 39 cents, but there was a fee for the extra thickness of the evenlope (memory plastic case). A week later, the customer said he received an empty envelope. He said there was no damage done to the envelope. What should I do? There was no insurance for the mail. Should I refund him the $40?

EDIT: i forgot to mention; the envelope was taped on the seal.

EDIT2: i just asked him if there was a slit on the side of the envelope, and he said there was. he didn't notice the slit since it was so small. oh well.

yep, you ned to refund the money since you didn't insure it and use better packaging.

ya you have to...cause if he is telling the truth then you would be screwing him over by not refunding the money

Is there a possibility that the Postal Service guy opened up the envelope? How else could the SD card be gone? The customer lives in a townhouse and uses a key to open up his mail box, so I doubt someone else stole it.

Ask him to check for a slit made from a razor on the sides of the envelope.

Sounds fishy, things magically disappearing and everything. Though a refund is probably in order, you're going to have to eat this one.

If you can't afford to take the hit, buy insurance. And buy delivery confirmation. I require a signature for big ticket items.
Hell, I send in rebates, DC, sig required.

i'll ask him. even if there was a slit, i can't really do anything about it since i didn't buy insurance. =\

delivery confirmation in this case would not have made a difference. the envelope was empty. DC would show that something was delivered.

either someone opened the envelope, too the card and resealed the envelope or the buyer is looking for a card and his money back.

in either case... you did not insure, so you have to eat this one.

sorry

wtf

package better next time.

I'm assuming you charged the person .40 or whatever for shipping? If so, you're both retarded

Refund, file a report, move on. You lost the card and the money.

file a report to? what's the point? i won't get any money back.

They might look into it. I suspect a USPS employee. While you are SOL, might prevent the same thing from happening in the future.

Yes, refund. Next time try USPS Priority mail - $3.50 and comes with a free box, 3-day delivery, and free delivery confirmation if you use the USPS Priority Mail Label Generator.

EDIT - guess they raised the price to $4.05

Delivery confirmation is one of the most useless things ever invented. All it tells you is whether or not something made it into a mailbox. It's not an indication of delivery and should not be relied on for any purpose.

Was this a trade at AT or some other forum? Regardless, you technically owe him the refund, but if it is someone here, and he is known, you are probably not getting scammed out of it.
