Any tips on how best to cut Duron bridges (so that they can be reconnected differently- for OC'ing on a mobo w/o multiplier adjustments)

Thanks!

Try a search looking for responses from John Car(r). He has a webpage with all the info, including tools.

Whould a X-Acto knife work? If you connectied them with a conductive pen or a pencil use paint thinner to wipe the stuff off.

Thanks for the tips! I think I need more sleep to decode Johncar's website -it's just gibberish to me right now!

Anybody had any success with x-acto or similar, or do I really need to invest in a diamond-tipped grinder thing?

I used a dremel to cut mine,an Xacto knife wont do and if you try one use saftey glasses for when the blade shatters. The best tool I think would be a fine tipped engraving tool. The smalest bit that came with the dremel was big for the job but did it. On the down side once you get a dremel in your house order a new case,it will look like swiss cheese 3-4 days after.

What kind of Dremel blade did you use? Did you drill it out, or did you use a cutting blade or similar?

Thanks... and keep the tips coming!

I used the cone shaped grinding tool,I think I should have used a cutting wheel but didnt think about it until after. When I was doing it I didnt expect to end up cutting all but one bridge either. I needed to cut so many as my 750-950 OC turned into 750@850,it would not post over 8.5 multi. It's a low quality OEM Tbird 7.5v default,it was 94$ and there was another OEM750 for 112$ at he same place. You've got to figure that kind of $$ difference means something on the same site.

Maybe I can help interpreting Johns site. Its NOT recommended to use a Dremel to cut the bridges. The Dremel is used to modify a diamond tipped burr which is used to do the cutting. Essentially, the burr is ground down to make it suitable for cutting the bridges. With the burr mounted in a suitable handle, the bridges can be cut in about 10 secs or so.

OK, with you so far- but what's a diamond-tipped burr? Home depot material of some type, to be found in the tool cage, I imagine?

Thanks!

Ahhh recomended shmecomended you really want to know the funny part. You can grind the crap out of them and the chip dont care.

I AM NOT SUGGESTING THIS BUT> I ground off the first bridge I was trying to disconnect completely gone and I mean gone I had to scrape to find the 2 dots left behind. Come to find out I was looking at the L6 backwards and it was the wrong one. It still Connects!

As for takeing your time with connecting the bridges(Ive heard to retrace for 20 mins)haw haw noway. After a few bad trys to get 900-950 I was a little POed so I earased and rather quickly 1min max each reset it as 850. Booted fine no problems and is still running fine. This may all be luck on my part but I am still amazed that it even works nevermind the OC. The real hard part for me is getting them totally disconected I did have an issue or two with that part but the rest was cake.

LevcoS,
http://members.nbci.com/candjac/index.htm page 2 of Duron OC article.
Then go to MicroMark link which may have a pic of the 20 pc diamond
burr set.

Burrs are essentially grinding tools with small cutting tips specially shaped to suit grinding/burring of different contours. Small burrs are used in Dremel type hobby drilling/grinding motor tools. Tip shapes are ball, drum, conical...various sizes.

Diamond tipped burrs have smooth shapes coated with diamond ?dust? instead of integral chisel-like cutting edges found in steel burrs.

The article describes how to use a drum shaped tip/burr to shape a conical shaped tip/burr into a tip that's shaped like a tiny jewelers screwdriver blade with diamonds on one side/edge. Attached to a handle, you now have a hand tool with a diamond coated edge that can cut a narrow trench thru the hard ceramic, across the bridges, without destroying bridges beyond the ability to close them again as needed...which happens if you try to cut them open with a power tool of any kind. Bridges are just too small to be safely cut/opened with power tools, however small the tool...can't maintain alignment by hand.

Trust us...it works easily. Or send us an email from contact link at the site and we'll send you pics of the 20 pc burr set.

Thanks, johncar! I think seeing a photo of the tools was all I really needed... now if the duron would just get here, I think I (more or less) know what I'm doing!
