anyone here cut your own hair?

I wish I can give myself haircuts instead of paying 13 bucks per visit to the haircut place every couple weeks (my hair is short so I have to get it cut often)

anyways, if I run a hair clipping thing at clipping size 7 through the top of my head, would it give me a flat-top look or spiky look? I HATE flat top ... I like the rounded, spiky top,,, but i'm afraid if I do it, it'll end up with the flat-top look

anyone know?

I do my own. I use a 7/8 on the top and a 3/8 on the sides. First time I did it I was drunk too.

Nope, but hair is very thick and doesn't stick up usually though. It's blended with the sides, so it's really just short cropped hair, not flattop looking at all.

Heh, I remember I went to high school with a kid that tried to cut his own hair... in the dark. Let's just say, he missed "a few" spots and felt STUPID the next day at school...

Hair is something you should spend money on... unless you don't care... which of course you do since you started this thread....

To get spiky hair, you'll need thinning scissors... if your hair is too soft it won't spike very well...

I used to cut it myself. The top and sides are easy. The back I get a friend to do because its hard to get everything even doing it yourself.

I tried cutting mine once and man did I do a major screw up!

So $15 for a cut isn't that bad to me!!

if you have a 3 way mirror and pretty good dexterity you should be able to get a nice cut yourself.... just be patient and dont rush

I've done that. Takes like 3 hours to get it exactly right...I'm fairly meticulous.
Now I just let it grow cuz it's too expensive to get a cut that I like. The last one I liked cost me 30 big ones. Fvck that!

I cut my own hair. I used to take me a couple of hours, but now it's about an hour. The worst part is the cleanup. The cutting part isn't so bad when you get used to holding the mirror to see the back. I got tired of getting bad haircuts from other people. Figured I could mess up my own hair for free -- I actually got good at it though.

It will give you a rounded look as the guard follows the shape of your head. You have to cut the hair a certain way to get a flat-top.

I've been cutting my own hair for years. Just cut all over with the longer guard, switch to the shorter one and do the sides and back (I use a handheld mirror + bathroom mirror to see the back of my head). Run the clippers vertically up the sides of your head and you should blend the two lenghts fairly well after a little practice.'

If you screw it up beyond repair, just cut it all to the shorter length and try again in a couple weeks. I keep mine buzzed really short here in the summer since it's so damn hot.

My wife cuts her own hair and cuts mine . Beats paying $15 for a haircut, and she does a fantastic job. Always get complimented by her mom on my haircuts (her mom used to own a beauty shop).

Funny thing is that I've gone from one extreme to the other over the past couple of years. I used to have really long hair almost to my elbows (the envy of half the women in the world, apparently) and I now have a really short haircut (buzzed on the sides and back and about 1 inch on the top, which I slick back).

That's exactly what I was thinking!!!

I cut my own hair, but then I shave my head too. So I guess that doesn't really help. Sorry.

I first tried cutting my hair myself last year when I moved to Pittsburgh (couldn't find any barbers who knew how to cut Asian hair).

I totally messed up and ended up wearing a hat for a while. I've improved somewhat but it's still a little uneven (in the back) and I have not yet learned how to do a proper fade.
