One of my burners died last weekend so I picked this up today. I must say, I'm somewhat impressed. It is a rebadged cyberdrive DX162D. I already own a DX082D which is a very good drive for ripping. I burned a few DVD-Rs and DVD+rs and all burns and verifies were good. The only gripe I have is that this drive, like many others, will not burn overspeed (I hope I said that right). What I mean by this is that on my DX082D, even though the disc may have write strategies for 2x, 4x, and 8x, I can burn the disc at 6x. With the DX162D, it will only burn at 4x or 8x (not in between). You may not see this as a biggie, but it is a nice compromise of burn time vs burn quality on 4x media.
When you pick up the drive instore, you may want to look at the bottom of the box for Manufacture dates of November or December 2004. These are most likely firmware 130F. I've seen bad reviews on earlier firmware revisions.
Anyway, thanks OP for the post.
