OH man, I wish I could get this ISP ... from a first hand impression, it looks like a great deal.

I think you have to pay all 18 months up front to get it for $39/mo. (at least that was the deal when we looked into it about 6 months ago)

We have the month-to-month for $49/mo. Very happy with Cyberonic. Upload speed make big difference.

I just want to warn you that the so far, the lines are not that stable in the bay area. It's been down atleast once a month for a few hours. Appearingly they did a major upgrade about two months ago, but I still experiencing spotty outage. Also, don't expect any tech support cuz they can't really do anything. If something's wrong with your line, you have to wait for MCI/WorldCom to call you. But then by the time they call, it's a few days later. I am so regrett signing that contract.

Me and two for my friends is using cyberronic in Chicago. I don't think you need to pay all 18 months for the deal. There sale and support is not the greatest, I had using them for about a year and they are great. 1.5m down and 768 down.

I'm on a month to month contract with cyberonic. It's uptime is comparable to other broadband ISPs, so that's not an issue for me.

But I love the upload. I can run servers (mail, web, ftp) off it, and they're great.

Their news service sucks, but I don't use nntp, so I don't care.

I live in Berkeley, BTW.

I recommend cyberonic to all my tech savvy friends and SBC/Yahoo to everyone else.:brokenheart:

Great deal and static IP.Too bad they don't offer it in my location.I was thinking about SBC but I'm too far from CO and all I can get is basic package with up to 384kbps.

Estimated Loop Distance From CO
1.5m/768k bps (2.0 miles)

gots to be close people... watch out if you order it then they say you outisde the distance limitations. had a buddy order it and get craptastic speeds due to the 14K loop distance

its fast for the money you have to pay. For someone's statement that you have to pay all of 18 months payment, i don't think you have to. Either no contract for 50.00 for 40.00 with 18 month contract.

I choose no contract. The speed is great. Love it

I lived just north of Berkeley, CA (Richmond) and looked into this at the end of last year. They had been doing it for $40 a month with the contract, but changed it to all the money up front. I'd imagine it's the same now.

Good deal from unknown company, I do not feel comfortable with a company that has you pay that much upfront, and is tied into MCI, and does not have an online qualifier.

They're pretty "low-tech" as everything must be called in. I don't think they even answer their support@ email. I got nothing when I tried it about 3 weeks ago anyway...

If you want to pre-qualify online, go to http://www.britsys.com/ and see if you qualify for their MCI/Worldcom 1.5/768 DSL. It's the same as Cyberonic's.

If DigiZip (http://www.digizip.com/) still has the free setup promo, and if you're going monthly, they might have a better deal. They offer the same 1.5/768 DSL for the same price, but with 5 static IPs (IIRC) and I think their modem is free for you to keep (you have to return Cyberonic's).

BTW, Cyberonic has a forum at http://www.dslreports.com/ if you guys want to ask current users.

I signed up durring the DirectTV DSL fiasco, and they've been great. ever since. It's the perfect situation where my line hasn't ever gone down, and I've never had to call tech support. They use high quality modems, which is also a plus. They don't let you into the modem configuration, which is a minus, but it's livable. If your line qualifies, it's a great deal for business class service as home user prices.

It's great but when I signed for it last year, I remember you had to pay a set amount (like 480$, a year's worth) for the 40$/month deal. I chose the 50$/month deal since at that time Worldcom (the provider) was going into bankruptcy. All I have to say is that I love the service, but I didn't like how they gave me two options for the router (you are not given admin access to their router), either have NAT&firewall enabled or NAT&Firewall disabled on that router. Solved that problem using an additional router. Also, they don't have a News Server (I asked several times) so if there is one please let me know ...

edit: As for downtime, I haven't had any substantial ones that I remember (in LA area). You might need to reset the modem (once every 1-3 months) if it hiccups.
