I downloaded the power panel UPS software and configured it so my home server shuts downs after power outage:

Now the Power goes out - UPS sends signal to Home server to gracefully shut down if the power outage is greater 5 minutes (this Part is I am ok with and have configured it as such)
What I need help with is: After city power comes back (lets say after 4 hours), how do I configure the software UPS etc to boot up the Home server.

Aside -->PC has xeon cpu/server mobo setup to boot to the last state if/after power fail. So prior to the UPS the PC would always comeback online once the city power resumed as per mobo settings.

thanks in advance

That isn't possible in a consumer unit, at least, none that I have seen.
That is more of a commercial / enterprise feature.

Yeah that isn't going to available outside units costing several hundred or even a few thousand dollars.

Why wouldn't the computer boot back up anyway with the BIOS setting for it to do so when power is restored? Are these power outages shorter than the UPS battery life?

Perhaps you can use the wake on lan feature to wake the computer back up?

APC brand UPS have the capability for auto on after power is restored, provided it has been off long enough for certain messages to be sent from their PowerChute software.

Yes, it is possible to set up a Wake-on-Lan start with some BIOSes. And, it is also possible to start the PC remotely via Internet or phone. This has some good tips:

Thanks guys, from the input above and from another forum here is what I have done:

Key is too setup mobo BIOS to be Always ON (mine was last state)
UPS - default setting is power up when utility power comes back online
Setup UPS config - setup either 10% battery left and shut down - OR - config for UPS shutdown, after PC is shutdown

Tested the above and works like a Charm.
thanks again

I think I am missing some details here, normally, if you are on UPS batteries, and it gets below whatever threshold you set, it then powers down the system gracefully.
When power comes back on, the UPS needs to charge back up to whatever percent it is set to, and consumer models wouldn't do anything else.
Commercial units would send a signal (usually WOL) to the rack/server and then the machine(s) powers up again.

I looked through all the configuration options available on PowerChute, and didn't see anything that would send any signal once AC power is working again.

You are right....after the UPS reaches threshold (my unit is defaulted to 10%) it will send signal to PC to gracefully shut down and after that the UPS will shut down.
When utility power comes back on, the UPS will also come back online (my unit did not charge back up to a set state) and because the PC BIOS is set to always ON - the PC turns on.
After my testing, I went into the UPS event viewer to verify the above steps, and the status shows battery charging, etc

Hope that make sense? Remember, I am using Power Panel (small business) software from Cyber.
