I don't understand that statement--basically, no way to know what 1st person Mass Effect would be like to compare--but I already do know that Bethesda games are far superior in 3rd person than when played 1st person!

Also, I do know that the video game industry in general went down hill when that stupid "Doom" game was unleashed upon the world. Never understood that appeal of that.

By the way, Borderlands is one of my favorite games anywhere. I didn't say this had to make sense.

What’s to understand? Shooting a gun in a game is much better in first person. That’s it. Nothing else to say from my perspective.

The problem with first person shooters is that it comes with a bit of an expectation that game play will mainly revolve around shooting everything you see, and skills, the main hallmark of an RPG, tend to be majorly downplayed because people hate having an artificial mechanic that downgrades their aim so that they miss 65% of their shots. It does not make for good gameplay.

But a game of this caliber is bound to have multiple issues on launch. Smart money says to wait for the game to be out a few months and then jump right in. No game is released without bugs these days.
Did I say it wouldn't?

EDIT: Also, in regards to FPP. Deus Ex does just fine. CDPR has earned my trust. Maybe they haven't earned yours, maybe you think it's silly to trust a company. But over the years, they have earned my trust. I'm perfectly fine to give them the benefit of the doubt. If W3 didn't prove that they know what they're doing, I don't think there's anything anyone could say to you.

OTOH, I just realized so much of the game is indoors and FPP is mostly better for that.

My only issue is where the Game Informer article talks about running along walls and hooking onto the wall with arm swords. Action like that tends to work better in third-person since you can see the areas that you may utilize a lot easier.

I’m not sure that’s how it’ll work though. The game appears to have a cybernetic/augmentation storyline so I believe that skills will revolve around those abilities more than your aim etc.

Titanfall did parkour pretty well as an FPS.

nah, it's why that game was weak, because it needed to be 3rd person for that (this follows your assumption that Mass Effect was certainly not fine, by virtue of OTS). I couldn't play Titanfall for more than 3 minutes because that was obviously problematic.

Anyhoo, I'm sure I will be fine with whatever works out in Cyberpunk. I'm fine with FP for shooting, obviously, but anything mele or action-based is inferior when stuck on FP, but we'll see how all this works out. They also mention bullet-time like powers? Wonder how that is supposed to work in FP? Sounds weird.

The dev was suggesting that this is less action/timing-based than the Witcher, so FP makes more sense (Again, a dev addressing that FP is inferior for action-based gameplay), so I think we will just have to see. CDPR is the only company out there right now that for me, has earned my deference until the finished product is available.

After watching the trailer,I have to say I'm more interested in this Cyberpunk than I ever was in The Witcher series. Sounds like your character will be more of a customizable blank slate (a la Bioware games) and if the shooter mechanics are solid, the actual gameplay should be leagues ahead (The Witcher games biggest weakness IMO is the combat mechanics, which is unfortunate since you spend so much of the game fighting).

CyberPunk 2077 might end up being a real boon for Deus Ex fans because if this game does well, you can bet every publisher out there will dust off their portfolio to see what they can cram into the "new hotness" mold, and Deus Ex has a lot more pedigree than other franchises (Syndicate maybe?) of this ilk.

I would guess the same way it worked in games that first introduced it (like Max Payne, F.E.A.R., Fallout (V.A.T.S.), etc., etc., etc.)

Good point.Though, I turn off VATS in modern FO games because it makes an easy game stupidly easy....also, those are 3rd person games. VATS is important for the proper, isometric FO games, though.

I actually never played the other two.

They have Mike Pondsmith, the author of the original Cyberpunk 2020 RPG, working on the game so I am hoping they get the feel right.

F.E.A.R. was fully FPS, not 3rd person.

I must be getting old as before this would have had me drooling but now eh. The trailer (which isn't gameplay but still) just seems like the same old same old you are still getting in "futuristic" games; same old tropes, same old poverty, same old tech, same old power struggles, same old character that changes everything, same old gunplay, tick tick tick. Sunk 140 hours into the Witcher III but meh.

All those games should have had an option to switch easily between first and third person. That's the one thing Bethesda has consistently done right since the very beginning. Its something very basic yet most games dont do it.

Just like proper audio settings.
All the Forza games have music on/off, and master volume.
Thats it. Great racing games. Piss poor audio control.

Meanwhile in Test Drive Unlimited, an inferior car game:

Its especially annoying as so many games these days have very annoying menu dings and beeps and you cant do anything to mute them.

I barely play games anymore, but i'm actually really interested in this. The trailer sells a certain feel and aesthetic that's wildly appealing to me
