yeah well... these teasers are just for that... to give you a hint of what the atmosphere/artistic concept will be for the game...

like... that mech seems cool, in game should look nice, and from the video the guy with the cool thing in the head and the woman semi naked with big boobs with weird robotic things coming out from his body and being invulnerable to "normal" bullets seems nice

not much you can say from that

I like the first part of the trailer; but the second part (where they leave the cut-scene and go to a small glimpse of game play in the helicopter) seemd a bit of a let down (for such a small piece).

I forgot that the name of the pen and paper game they were basing it off of was called Cyberpunk and was wondering why it had such a generic name. Could you even trademark the name cyberpunk?

Ign has a pretty good breakdown of the trailer here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3c0-z5IFr4

Cyberpunk, the noun/adjective in of itself, probably cannot be trademarked. But, tack on a few numbers after it, the entire string of characters becomes trademark-able.

The first pen and paper game release was actually "Cyberpunk 2013". I think the first major reference to "cyberpunk" was a few years before that game was released, I think coined by William Gibson. It was also part of a title of a short-story collection.
But yeah, that's probably why they are setting the game name as Cyberpunk 2070. They should be able to trademark that as their own property, but they also likely have to pay for licensing rights since it A) closely resembles the Cyberpunk 2013/2020 name, and includes a great deal of story elements from the same.

Is it comming out within the next couple of months? If not i won't bother getting into any kind of hype, i hate seeing interesting games but with vague or far off release dates.

They are planning on a 2015 release, but otherwise hold firmly to the idea: "when it's done"

Which is a welcome and long-forgotten concept (you dev's MUST HIT THIS DATE! Alpha, beta, or Release quality we don't care!).

But if thinking of far off games isn't your cup of tea (nor is it mine), you can safely forget about this one for awhile.

I remember reading about some games like four or five years before they anticipate it will be released, and thinking at the time "omg this sounds so awesome! why is it so far away?!" and then a short time later, I'm fairly sure I have promptly forgotten everything. Then, what do you know, those four years have passed, I hear about a release in the next few months, and I start drooling. Then I forget again and am reminded when it's either a month or few weeks out, or already released.
It's a vicious cycle of being informed, hyped, forgotten, hyped, depressed, forgotten, then OMG I HAVE IT!
and then depressing as all hell when it sometimes turns out to be a dud, or buggy as hell.

Yeah, i try to avoid it. Happened so many times with me...from Super Mario 3 to Oblivion, Rage..etc.
Usually i'm dissapointed..well not with SMB3, that game ruled.

I would really love to see just an ounce of gameplay.

This trailer isn't even CDProjeckt's own work. It's pure CG using a scanned actress and created by another company. Hey let's throw a half naked chick (because this is the role women will always be relegated to in video games) on a screen and make it look really cool.

Of course, I guess it worked......who am I to argue with the oldest marketing technique in the book.

The trailer was basically just an announcement of hey we're working on a game in this setting. Just from that, I'd have to figure it's a very long way off. If they had game-play footage to show, they probably would have some of it out.

I am a little disappointed to hear that The Witcher 3 will be a completely open world RPG. I like Open World RPGs quite a bit, but they usually lack a good story and emotional ties to it, since you can do whatever you want whenever you want to. The Witcher 2 was nice in that it had large open environments, but a very focused story that drew you in. I don't doubt that you could do both, but it would be quite difficult and I worry that it will fall short on emotion and story because of the lack of focus.

I'm with you. My heart sank a little when they said they were moving to an open-world model. We don't need another Elder Scrolls or Fallout, we need more games like Kotor, and Neverwinter, heavily story driven.

Well, the engine seems impressive:

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/01/cd-projekt-red-introduces-redengine-3-latest-iteration-of-in-ho/

from the press release:

The technology uses high dynamic range rendering with 64-bit precision that ensures superior picture quality with more realistic and precise lighting without losses derived from reduced contrast ratio. A flexible renderer prepared for deferred or forward+ rendering pipelines has a wide array of cinematic post-processing effects, including bokeh depth-of-field, color grading and flares from many lights. A high performance terrain system allows multiple material layers to be efficiently blended and uses tessellation for the best possible detail. The technology also includes seamless blending between animations and physics along with many more features. The engine uses CD Projekt RED's new version of

Judging by that little blurb about the new engine, this game is in fact going to be at least DX11 compatible. Who knows what other versions of DX Microsoft might release in the next 4 years, but Tessellation and forward+ means at least a DX11 base.

I figured, for a game destined to be released in 2015, it was essentially guaranteed to have a brand new engine. More importantly, the engine would have to be at least somewhat relevant and common at the time... (using DX9 a year or two ago wasn't common, but it wasn't rare by any means).
The biggest fact that guaranteed DX11 though - for a 2015 release, they will almost assuredly targeting the next-gen consoles which should already be on the market by then. They've proven a willingness to target all major platforms at this time, I doubt they'll backtrack and return to PC-only development.
Especially if, as rumors suggest, both new consoles will be x86-based, development for multiple platforms will be that much easier and we PC gamers shouldn't suffer for it, save for bad UIs and controls.

edit: I had to look around the net and look at my old posts, for I was excited about seeing news on The Witcher 3 (or whatever else the surprise is, for surely this REDengine 3 press release is not the surprise!). I am both sad and excited: that specific surprise was dated for the 5th of February. Can't wait!
