I have read many of these threads and I am still looking for the gimmick.
Why is it that so many of the initial posts are from new members and so many of the supporting posts are from new members as well?
Now I know it's impolite to criticize anyone here based on this and that is not what I am trying to do. I am just trying to find the pattern.
And this sticks out. Sure, not all supporting posts are first timers, et al, but a rather large percentage. So where does this lead?
Is Cyberwings offering referrals? Are the referrals based on type of plans? Seeing how there are so many different types of specials. Dozens, it seems. It would be fairly easy to track w/o referral codes. Sign up on the anniversary plan for 3.95 at triple/double/whatever option. I mean, who would know? Just the original guy posting.
I don't know. Anyone who has signed up, I wish you luck. (Wasn't a reseller account one of the main features? Any resellers in here?)
It does seem to good to be true.

doesnt bother me. I wouldnt sink $100 into this place but $15? Or even the $4/year I paid? Who cares if they went under, if they even host it for a month i got money's worth.

Just curious, what's the benefit in a month of hosting. What would I wanna use it for?

What kind of question is that? I will use them until they go under. Whether is be for a month, 6 months, or 3 years. I get my money's worth either way.

You must be referring to a different thread. Only one other member in this thread has less than 100 posts, and they only said the link was dead. Do you care to back that up?

98% uptime is ludicrously horrible. Most companies offer 99.9*; my current webhost ($7/mo) offers 99.999%.

Actually Poindexter, I don't, although I'd probably back up from you. Why back up the obvious? Follow the trend in the threads and don't make misstatements of fact. I don't have the time or inclination to bandy about with a nitpicker. Read my post. I was curious about what I could use it for. You take it as an attack. Why so sensitive? Are you the reseller? Boy, I'm feeling lucky today, eh.

Moan, Groan, Cry all you want. I have been very pleased with my service. Only down one time since I got it in april. So, I definitely got my $3.90 worth.

Back up the obvious? You are the one making the accusations, not me. If you cant back them up, dont be bringing them up.
And I didnt take anything as an attack, why would I? I have no special feelings for this company and certainly dont have an affiliation with them.

What a tool.

No, he meant tool, possibly you meant fool, but I won't read into your statement things that aren't there like that pipsqueak likes to do. Good Lord, you quote someone and they want to fight. It's a discussion. So anyway, Lucky, BACK UP YOUR STATEMENT that 1 month of hosting is worth 3.95.

As far as post counts of cyberwings posters , look at all the threads, including this one.
I'm not saying new members svck or even those who's post count has been driven up in these threads, just look at the trend (do me a favor, look at it before asking me to back it up). I'm not saying Cyberwings svcks, it just seems too good to be true. I'm not saying you svck....well maybe at this point I am, in so many words, probably too many words for you to handle. So what do you use a 1 month or whatever hosting service for anyway?...it was a simple and innocous question. And no, I am not calling you obnoxious... well maybe I am at this point....Nuff said, either folks have spotted the same trend or not. I wasn't posting for your sake Lucky, even if I did quote you for the purpose of a simple question. If I ever ask you anything again remind me I promised not to.

$84/year is a lot different than $4 per year And as posted above, unless you have a computer or service constantly ponging that box, you don't know the uptime, you merely "know" what they tell you it is. If they guarentee 99.999% and in reality it is 99.0%, are you going to complain for your $84 per year? Just some questions to ask.... I am a happy customer, I have (5) I5 accounts...

For all the other negative posters.... I think a majority of us understand that, you get what you pay for... if you don't like the deal, fine! do you think cyberwings sucks and will go under in a month, cool! Every deal posted here is not meant to cater to 100% of the Anandtech Hot Deals Forums members.... The Mod of F@twallet posted about how bad the thread crapping there was getting, and it's just as worse, if not more, here. In this instance, I just don't think thread crapping when you have no actual experience is warranted.

Just my thoughts..

I really don't get it.

I really guess the trolls are just bitter that they're stuck with some other provider, or else they seem to assume that everyone needs what they're looking for in a web host.

I'm getting a bunch of email address for $4 for a year, basically Heck, I'll even get a web page up eventually. Now why in the fark would I want to pay $7 a month ($84 for the year)?

My first CW website was developed for family and friends. A new picture of my kids gets automatically uploaded every day, via a program I wrote, and a few people I know from who live around the country get to see my boys grow up through cyberspace. If CW goes down the tubes, I'll find another provider. Nobody gets hurt, no real money out of my pocket, and nobody really cares if they miss 3-5 days of pictures. Does my site svck? Well, that's a matter of opinion, but it gets the job done. I also have a site developed for my Sunday school class. They can find news, get email addresses, telephone numbers, etc. of other class members (via protected pages), and CW even let me set up a catch-all email address (everybody@......) that allows simple sending of a message to everyone in my class.

There is no mission critical element to either of my sites, and I wouldn't expect the most phenomenal service and uptime for $4 a year. But so far, I have absolutely nothing to complain about. I don't expect them to be around in a year, but I hope they are. Until then, I'm enjoying a free ride in essence.

No matter how you look at it, CW is a hot deal.

What good is it if they vanish after 1 month?
Still very good.

If it cost you $4, that still is about 1/2 what others charge for 1 month.

Learn from your mistakes?
Exactly!

This is the perfect way for someone to get started in Web design.
They don't have to invest a large yearly fee, and stumble along at a loss while learning.
These low cost plans give the novice the time to learn as he or she goes.

How can you lose on this?
You can't, unless you pay them and only get a couple weeks use before they fold up.
People take chances here in Hot Deals forums all the time on rebates for much more than this, that never come.

As all deals go, if you don't like it, move along. Until they die off, it is still a Hot Deal. What if's don't get it here.

I had to file a PayPal dispute to get my refund after exchanging e-mails with CEO-Shawn for nearly a week and getting empty promises. Finally after Pay-pal was involved I got my refund, on the last day he possibly had to resolve the dispute....

I really don't get it.

no you really don't. Having a lot of email addresses is useless if the servers down and can't receive messages. It's also useless when you can't check it for days and people send you emails expecting you to receive them in hours. My accounts are getting slower and slower all the time and it's harder and slower to check my email.
I made the mistake of using my hosted email address to register for a website and a game that required a username/pass. After signing up for both I couldn't connect to my site and get the info they sent me. It was almost a day and a half before I checked it and it worked(yeah it was probably wasn't down that whole time, but everytime I tried to connect, I couldn't get through). I shouldn't have to try and check my email every hour in the hopes that I will catch the window of opportunity when my site will be fast. It really isn't too fun to connect at 1.2k persecond and just be staring at the top frame of your webmail inbox for about 20 minutes hoping the rest of the page will load.
If you people who haven't had any troubles are going to stick your heads in the sand go right ahead, but I've been having real problems with my site that are getting very annoying. For those of you who don't want care about reliability and only want cheap webhosting, I guess this is the deal for you. I got in on this deal the first time I saw it posted here(3.90 accounts) when they said they weren't going to be selling anymore personal accounts(and I actually hopped on BECAUSE they said they weren't going to sell anymore personal accounts). That was bs and a lie, just as they continue to lie about every sale being their last one.
I'm not trying to thread crap, I'm trying to inform people that you might not(and probably won't) be getting what you pay for, which some of you seem ok with. I'm not, I like buying things and getting what I paid for, call me crazy. If you can't provide it, don't sell it.

It's funny to me that people can get so emotional about webhosting that they resort to personal attacks. Wait, it's not funny, it's disturbing. People keep making the comparison to Cyberrebates. Cyberrebates was a completely different operation. It Cyberwings was offering a lifetime account for $10,000 with a $9,985 mail in rebate I'd be worried about it. But $15 for a lifetime account? Who cares if they go under in 6 months? It's not like you're stuck holding the bag waiting for a rebate. If you don't want to trust Cyberwings then don't. I wouldn't trust a corporate webpage to Cyberwings for $5 a month, but for a "Motorcycles of Pre-WWI Fan Club" home page Cyberwing will probably be ok. It beats the crap out of Geocities!

Insominiac,

Right on, lots of trolls here lately.. why are THEY so worried about how we spend OUR money.. you'd think they were running their own "scam" and are upset we are not buying into theirs If they go down tomorrow, or next year, and I am out $15, big woop.. I've been out A LOT more than that waiting for rebates that never surfaced involving other deals in this forum, heh... Do the same trolls prowl around there?
