DPOverLord - GoDaddy.com seems to be everyone's favorite for low cost domain registration.

If it were me, since I'm lazy and a dumb ass I'd just have CyberWings handle my domain registration, less work for me in the end. It may cost a few bucks more but lazyassness is a disease, don't let them fool you.

OK so if I need two domains and have one registered, is the 7$ I pay CYberwings for 2 server spaces @ 7$ level five the price I will always pay, or is it 7$ per server for year?

I paid on 5/31/02 and received my setup stuff on 6/4/02! VERY VERY fast compared to the LAST sale! bleh!

well worth the wait though! However, I must add that THIS sale is waaaaaaaaaaay faster!

Personally, I don't see the lure of Godaddy, nor do I understand the name. I have been very happy with Namecheap because in addition to the fast and flawless service, they provide free and unlimited web forwarding as well as email forwarding with unlimited names and catchalls. You neither want nor need any of this if you've got a proper host like Cyberwings, but should Cyberwings have some sort of "problem", it's nice to be able to instantly forward traffic to a different host or webspace.

I ordered a pair of accounts last Thursday(?) and got the activation email today. I did not get the double and a half stuff they promised however.
(and everyone who has bought one during this Buy One Get One Free Special will get this too anyway so don't worry), you will get DOUBLE space and an extra 50% of bandwidth on ALL ACCOUNTS.

I ordered an 80MB account a few months ago with a similar 50% promo and never got the 50% until I submitted a help-desk ticket last week. They promptly increased it to 105MB(?).

DPOverLord: I wish I could help with the 7$ thing but it seems that many of the critical vowels and adjectives in your post were eaten by the Anandtech server. Try reposting and see if it comes through OK.

Cyberwings has been great for me so far. I bought a 3.90 account and submitted the form to activate it on 5/17. Yesterday got the email and edited the godaddy DNS settings. Today I can access it. Good stuff. Supposedly they have the wait time down to a few days now, anyway dont' sign up expecting to be able to use it tomorrow it takes them a week or two to get it setup because they have so many orders. I heard a number of 13,000 customers in a chat I had with a tech rep.

Worms, let me repost,

What I asked was that if I were to buy the level 5 account @7 $. Would I be getting one of the accounts free for just that one year or would it be forever? I was somewhat curious, since I would like to know if it was $14 per year or 7$ per year. That was the question

Ok, I got the I5 deal, even though I bought the $3.90 plan last month. 2 hosting plans, each with 220MB storage and 12GB bandwidth is unbeatable.

Good question (and well written). I've been wondering that myself. They swear up and down that whatever price you pay is locked in for life so I would expect the 2 for 1 to hold. But then again, who cares? It's virtually free as it is, what's another $7?

DPOverLord - Yes, that $7 would buy you two I5 hosting plans each year as long as you stay a Cyberwings customer.

Orders from June 1-3 should now be processed. This includes both individual and AYW plans. "Welcome emails" are supposed to be going out throughout the day.

For those of you who have placed an order before June 1 and haven't received your "welcome email", you can either go to their chatroom/IRC channel, submit a helpdesk ticket, or send an email message to Cyberwings. It's a little ironic but yes, you can send a message to the helpdesk about the status of your order. If you go the email route, which is the recommended procedure, use the following format:

ON THE SUBJECT OF YOUR EMAIL, PLEASE PUT: "MY ORDER DATE HAS PASSED"

YOUR NAME:
YOUR ADDRESS:
YOUR CITY, STATE, ZIP:
YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS:
PLAN #:
DOMAIN NAME:
PRICE YOU PAID FOR THE PLAN:
FTP USERNAME OF YOUR CHOOSING:
FTP PASSWORD OF YOUR CHOOSING:
FRONTPAGE Y/N:

I don't believe they need your street address if you paid through PayPal.

Unfortunately, this is probably the worst part of Cyberwings - the order process. It is not automated which leaves it open to all kinds of manual errors, both on the part of the individual ordering and the folks at Cyberwings fulfilling the orders. It doesn't happen often but the possibility does exist. Of course, since it is a manual process, there will be delays when they receive a huge influx of orders.

Also, ordering is a two-step process (send payment and then fill out order form for your domain) that can confuse some people who are used to a simplified one-step ordering process. However, this can be good since it allows you to take advantage of special prices without requiring a domain at the time of order.

Most of the Cyberwings customers would probably agree that once their account is setup, they have little to complain about, especially the price.

Anyway, I hope this clears some things up.

The price you pay is the price you renew at. $7 now, $7 a year from now....assuming they are around a year from now. To me it is worth the risk, I signed up with Cyberwings.

I haven't read the entire thread but after reading the well thought out detailed first post, CyberWings needs to make up their mind on what they're offering and when it ends.
Yeah, I would prefer they stopped these wild sales ... I think it would give them a better shot at being around in a year.

They don't seem to ever end a sale when they say they will...call it a quirk I guess. They even joked about it recently.

I signed up Sunday night (6/2) with the buy one get one free sale and the double bandwidth and disk space. It was setup two days later (6/4). Very fast and definitely worth it.

Just updating with announcements about another chatroom sale as well as updated prices for individual hosting plans.

Let me know if you guys are tired of the updates. I'm really not in the mood to annoy anyone.

I decided that the reseller for 10$ a month unlimited domains plesk 2.5 Plan 1 red with 1 GB of disk space is better

when ind. acct level @ 10$ have 150 mb of back space.
Which one is better of reseller or ind. What yall think?

I suggest everyone read my new topic posting, he's gone insane. A one night sale of a whole bunch of stuff, lifetime. The craziest offer is the reseller plan 1, LIFETIME for a one time fee of $100!!!!

Now plans 1-5 are $1-5. I'm getting worried they won't be around more than a few more weeks. Anyone else??

Not that I didn't get my $2 worth, that's not what I'm saying. But is anyone else concerned about their business model and longevity probability?

I think they'll be around for more than a few weeks, otherwise over 13,000 people will be ROYALLY pissed off. A lot of those are ATers (including myself) which they don't wanna fsck with. What really annoys me is they never consistently offer a promo and stick with it's original terms, they're constantly changing it, extending it, ending it early, doubling this, then deciding against it, lowering the price a few days later, etc. It's pretty aggrivating.

Not that I didn't get my $2 worth, that's not what I'm saying. But is anyone else concerned about their business model and longevity probability?

I'm a little concerned but I'd only lose $19.50 (bought 5 P5's with 1 free P5 during the last sale).

Yeah, they are definitely cashing out. I just hope my $1 gets me some status with the new owner. I already have 3 of their $3 accounts and the performance and features are truly amazing. I've already recieved ten times my money's worth in the 2 months I've been with them so even when they do go under it will only be a loss of future service from my perspective.

yeah, I might lose $10 on 4 accounts. ok, not the end of the world. I had fun; I learned; I had hosting for a month, so far.

But I don't feel comfortable telling my friends to jump on it at this point (ie get full price godaddy.com domain names to take advantage of $1/yr hosting) and then get stuck paying $10/mo for regular hosting after a little while. We're just looking for cheap alternatives to yahoo email for POP access.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'm raising a warning flag for anybody that might be tempted. I love hot deals, but this seems like a "swan song" to me.
