Cyberwings individual hosting plans ($1 - $30 per year)

I'll say this again. If you register with namecheap instead of godaddy you don't need a host. You can use the free forwarding service to direct email and web traffic to your webspace. Of course it doesn't compare to a properly hosted site but it works. Cyberwings will be great while it lasts but a backup sure is handy.

With all the specials (which sometimes change several times over the course of a few hours), it's easier to understand quantumchromodynamic theory (or the IRS code) than it is to figure out just what a given Cyberwings plan offers and how much it costs.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I sank $100 into this place but it's downright scary. The "ceo" Shawn may have good intentions, but they're easily forgettable amidst the hourly promos, mediocre service and the sheer thought that he's clearly unfamiliar with what it takes to be a reliable, scalable host.

I'm going to show my true colors: I'm the founder of a >42 million dollar VC funded .com. (Yes, it's still around.) I know the challenges associated with this type of thing. This type of behavior will certainly bite you in the ass.

Unfortunetly, that is the conclusion that I and many others have arrived at as well. Simple mathematics do apply here, you can not charge such a low rate and have the infrastructure you need to keep such a company afloat!

Actually tonight I got in on one of the special deals and the CEO shawn sat down and talked to everyone answering personal messages and everything. I already had a few accounts and he let me consolidate them into one and a better package, and talked to me one on one. I trust him, and actually think they are going to be around for a long time. It is a little chaotic, but like tonight they had like 7 CW people on helping him all through the night answering questions etc. He was precise about his feeds, his upgradability, the OS's he uses, scaleablity, his intrests etc etc. Also, my website that is with them now took a while to set up, but I find the interface nice, and the connection is very fast now. This is actually the kind of service I was looking for. I rather spend the extra time for a setup, and have one on one support and know my hoster, than the slew of bad hosting experiences I've had in the past. I know for one, that if I had a problem or there was some glitch that I could explain it to them and they would work something out with me. I definately can't say that about my last few hosting services...

I think we're debating the basic economics of it and not Shawn's good spirit. It seems obvious he's intent on making waves. But the crazy setups seem more like postdated checks, for an account that is (debatably) not going to be around next year because of the unsustainable prospect of having "lifetime" accounts pulling >100gb a month.

I'm not talking out of my arse. My startup continues to plow through >80mb sec at daily peak. Yes, 80 megs in one second. It's pricey, and no peer will put up with stuff like that without passing the cost onto you, which is what he's effectively offering.

Ok, another update: another chat sale extravaganza will be happening tonight.

Obviously, there's been a bit of doubt and skepticism about Cyberwings and its stability as a business. I'm hoping that the CEO has a Q&A session as he did last night to answer some of the rumors and concerns floating around. I'm not entirely sold on them just yet but it never hurts to keep an open mind. If you get a chance later, pop in after 10pm EDT and check out what's happening.
