Cyberwings individual hosting plans ($1 - $30 per year)

I was going to post this in one of the earlier Cyberwings threads but since that offer (for $3.90/yr hosting) is no longer valid, I figured it would be inappropriate.

Anyway, as posted on their web site, Cyberwings has now completed orders up through May 15 (about two weeks ago). They should complete the rest of the orders this week. I would assume they will be back to a "2-3 day" turnaround time for new accounts starting next week as they have previously done.

Now, here's the good news. As mentioned a few times in previous threads, Cyberwings is once again offering individual (level 1) host plans again along with their other plans as stated on their web site. The individual host plans range from $3-$60 PER YEAR (or $5/month at most).

Unfortunately, as I previously stated, the $3.90/yr plan is no longer valid; instead the price is $7/yr for that same plan, which is still hot, I believe. Quite a few members of AT signed up, I'm sure, and for those that missed out on the earlier deal, this may be the closest thing you'll get to a second chance for now.

UPDATE 5/29: Cyberwings has a promotion that offers a "buy 1, get 1 one free" on all individual hosting plans. They don't mention how long this promotion will last though.

UPDATE 5/31: This deal just got a little sweeter. Apparently, if you order now and before they remove the text explaining this offer from their web site, they will DOUBLE your space and give you an additional 50% of bandwidth for both your paid plan and the free additional plan.

UPDATE 6/2: From now until they remove the text from their web site (which might be this afternoon), all individual hosting plans will receive DOUBLE the bandwidth instead of 50% additional bandwidth. That's on top of the "buy one, get one free" promotion.

So if you purchase the infamous plan 5, this is what you should receive for $7 for the entire year:

Two (2) hosting plans, each with
220MB storage
12GB bandwidth

As usual, the price you pay when you sign up is the renewal price year after year (unless, of course, you change plans). One last note that I have to mention; this deal is only available if you purchase using PayPal. That might put off some people but I wanted to make sure you knew about that requirement.

UPDATE 6/3: Thanks to Mr.Diggler, providing update about the chat room specials that will occur tonite.

UPDATE 6/5: I just found out that Cyberwings is having another chatroom extravaganza sale from now until midnight EDT. If you have a favorite iRC client, it's probably better to log into the #cyberwings channel instead. Full details of the sale will be constantly updated during the sale at their web site.

UPDATE 6/6: Updating for a couple of things. There are new prices for the individual hosting plans which I thought were only good for one night (updated thread title). Second, there's once again, another chatroom extravaganza sale so check it out if you have some time.

I bought 1 P5 package back when it was $3.90. Anyone know if when we have to renew we'll have to pay the more expensive price or $3.90 for another year?

I ordered on 5/2/02 and got my account set up today. They kept me updated through the chatroom. So far I am very happy with Cyberwings, but don't expect your account to be activated immediately.

yeah just got my activation this morning too and DNS has already propagated thru godaddy. Took about 12 hours or so.

question: does anyone know of a good substitute for the cyberwings IMP webmail? I need one that will be able to upload about 200 contacts from yahooo/palm/outlook instantaneously (ie without copying and pasting them all!), if possible. Thanks!

The interface is great. You can create / delete accounts instantly, change from mailbox to forwarding to autoresponder, etc..

Obviously, they're free to make changes to their pricing structure as long as they give their customers sufficient notice, in my opinion. However, if I recall correctly, Cyberwings will renew your plan at the rate you signed up for. In your case, they should only charge you $3.90 when it comes time for you to renew next year.

[qCyberwings has now completed orders up through May 15 (about two weeks ago). They should complete the rest of the orders this week. [/quote]

that's not true...I ordered AYW12Y As You Wish Hosting Plan 12 - Yearly ($155.00) on Thu, 9 May 2002 01:30:54 -0400 and haven't yet been setup. That's fine I'll still wait...hopefully only one more week.

VisionsUCI -

As a rule, Cyberwings does not send out confirmations that your payment has been received. (If you pay by PayPal, as Cyberwings prefers, you will receive confirmation from PayPal that you have sent Cyberwings money.)

You will receive an email once your account is set up.

Please note that you must both send payment *and fill out an order form* before your order is placed in the activation queue. I believe many of the people who have complained about waiting over a month without receiving any word from Cyberwings simply sent payment without filling out an order form. In effect, they never actually placed an order.

bryce -

Shawn, the CEO of Cyberwings, has stated on many occasions -- in email and on IRC -- that whatever one paid initially is what one will be charged when renewing. The rate will never be raised.

Oh, standard disclaimer here. I don't work for Cyberwings. I'm just a customer. They host a few of my domains. I've no complaints with them.

AYW Acct's are handled seperatly, and should be completed by the end of the week - per Shawn.

Check the site, and the chat room for updates.

I my self signed up for the AYW #1 on 5-14-02, and paypaled - so 1.5* bandwidth, and Storage, but still waiting.

They stated last night in chat AYW should be completed by the end of the week

I also do not work for Cyberwings.

anyone know if this new subscription promotion(buy 1 get 1 free) is for the first year only, or is it like the other deals where you can renew both accounts for the price of 1 every year. If it stays as a buy 1 get 1 free, then I'm definitely interested.

If you're savvy, bsdwebhosting has a much better deal. They don't charge you extra for hosting two domains, you set up your own mail, etc... You are charged a fraction of a penny per mb used, you are only charged for how much stress you actually put on their server, and it is all prepaid, so you won't unexpectedly get hammered.

Running my own tiny personal webpage and email, I only pay a few cents each month.

They tell you up front though, you're going to have to do your own work. They don't "handhold."

Here's the deal on their pricing:

free more what? why? Anyway, that bsd thingy looks pretty slick for minimal sites. It's a very clever and logical business plan. Note though that for higher traffic sites, bsd quickly becomes much more pricey. For example, where Cyberwings I4 plan is $0.50/month, the same stats at BSDwebhosting would cost $12/mo in traffic + $1.20/mo storage + CPU time. 6GB traffic would probably amount to 10 or 20 minutes of CPU time at $0.15/min totaling probably $2 as a very conservative guesstimate. So you see, theoretically the bsd service could cost $15/month vs. Cyberwings' $0.50/month. That's a very extreme example and surely one could never precisely maximize their Cyberwings account like such but my point is that bsd is only economical for very low bandwith sites and even then, Cyberwings $3/year account would likely be less expensive than all but the most idle bsd accounts.

If it's anything like a previous promotion they had, you should get the second plan free as long as you pay for the first when it comes time for renewal.

Yes, you need a real domain. You can get it from them for $10/yr or from Namecheap for $9. Your TLD need not be .com.

Yes they have SMTP. There's a pretty good independent FAQ here.

B.T.W. guys, don't be a pissy fvck when your service isn't set up quickly enough like all the crybabies in previous threads. Count on them taking a long time, shut the F up, and relax.

you can also get domain names like .com .org and .net registered @ GoDaddy.com for only $8.95 /yr...and it's cheaper if you buy more years...

anyway, I'm glad that they offered these plans again. I like it!
