Here's an informal low cost web hosting thread.

I totally agree here. That 1 gig storage/1 gig transfer doesn't make much sense.

if you go with dixie sys since they are having a 2 for one sale. I found it much better to use this to my advantage. I wanted to host just one site i looked at single prices then ilooked at reseller prices.

For a resellers account you can get 800 megs of space and 12 gigs of transfer for 10 a month. (thats afrter the 2 for 1 thingy) So it's a much betterdeal IMHO to go that way... You can load all the resources on one site if you only wish to host one. Or if you only need half split the cost with a friend and for 5 bucksa month get 6 gigs of transfer and 400 megs of space... Why you need more then 800 megs of space is beyond me unless your storing lots of downloads/pics...

edit: whoops didnt' see it was 19.95/yr.. I thought you said per month. Thats a better deal then but if you need mroe you can go monthly coems out to 120 a year. if you pslit with a friend 60...

i did the dixiesys 2-for-1 thing with a friend. $10/yr for each of us. I want it primarily for email. Friend wants it for email and as a family website.
it works out great for us.

(PS rossman, in the other dixie thread you posted about getting proposals from hosts at webhosting talk. thanks. just wanted to let you know I never did, bec dixiesys seems fine for my needs)

Ok cool. I do plan on registering with WebHostingTalk.com and placing a request in their WebHosting Requests forum for all CHEAP (under $60/yr) hosting companies then after compiling a list of 20 or more providers I'll list them all in a huge AT Hot Deals thread.

I think the best part of dixiesys is their customer service. They respond extremely fast to customer questions and complains, and will give you great personalized attention. Two thumbs up.

I just signed up for hosting at Catalog.com they're a free host- you only have to do the domain name reg. through them to get the hosting. Got a pretty good rating at zdnet- 20MB Space, 500MB monthly transfer, for the domain name fees of $35 per year- Good choice for those who don't already have a domain name registered

I wouldn't sign up with anyone that didn't have a 30 day money back guarantee, 24 hr toll free tech support, ssh and cron jobs. The best host I've found that has this is JTLNET. I even called the 1-800 number to order my package, and asked a few questions. If you check the big web hosting forums, its generally agreed you get what you pay for. The lower the price, the more sites they are packing per servers, and the result is a poorer product. My first host put 750 sites per server, and it was horrible. After then I always e-mailed the host and asked them, and if they put more then 200 I kept looking. Good luck.

DotEasy has domain name registration and hosting for $18 - $25 per year. It's $35 your first year if you are transferring an already-registered domain, though. You may have to agree to get their spam e-mails as part of the deal.

The only webhosting company I trust is Webulex. Dixiesys doesn't even have a working phone number!! With Webulex I got great rates, the guys worked with me, they pickedup the phones everytime I called and have gotten great service, with a Ensim interface (better than Plesk), plus you get a SHITLOAD of free things, literally every option is included.

I second catalog.com. I've had them for over a year now and NO problems at all. They even have a nice looking site - Although I miss that "welcome to Maine" sign at CW
