I got my welcome mails yesterday. I'm still waiting for the nameservers changes to come through.

Just to let people know - I guess the Cyberwings hosting doesn't assign you a real unique IP, which means you can't directly access your site by IP, which means you can't do much until the DNS propagates.

This is a new one to me, since my current host gave me a unique IP (so I can work on and access the site, even when the DNS isn't registered)...not to mention SSH acesss . I guess you really do get what you pay for.

Also, in my case I have an active site hosted with my other webhost, and when I migrate the site over to Cyberwings, I would have preferred to set everything up in advance and test with a direct IP, so I could make sure everything is working, and so there would be no downtime on my site. Unfortunately, it seems I won't be able to do much but upload files and cross my fingers, hoping that it pretty much works when the Cyberwings DNS changes go through.

Anyway, it still looks like it was a very hot deal. I grabbed a handful of $3.90 (!) packages and if it works out well, I will move all my sites off my current webhost. My years hosting for 4 x as many sites with 8 x the disk space will cost less than 2 months of my current host. Can't beat that!

Some questions,

I curreently have a domain registered with godaddy & use
mydomain (free) to forward my email. I am not sure how long
mydomain will last.

I would like to get a cheap way to get my email using lanb@"domain"
and using outlook on my pc.
Will this hosting deal for $3.90/yr work in this situation ?
I may host stuff at a later stage. Any other better/cheaper ways
of doing this ?

Lanb,
Yes with this service you will have as many email addresses @yourdomain.com as you want. You can access it by pop (outlook) or through webmail. I just switched to them and am pretty happy with the mail service so far. I just signed up for another account with them to host my other website.

The wait is definitely worth it. I got the Plan 5 deal. I had to wait a week like most people but I would do it again if I had too.

Signed up a week and a half ago. Have sent them multiple e-mails asking them to either provide the service I've already paid them for, or refund my money. Haven't heard a peep.

No, I asked specifically about this. Their reply was, they're not really set up to do it. When I thought about it, it's soooooo cheap, you might as well just get a handful of their super cheap accounts.

Personally, I signed up for a few of their P5 accounts, which I think is the best overall deal. If you have multiple domains, you can always sign up for a number of minimum accounts and one bigger one, then you can link to content from you other accounts to balance your file size.

I signed up for a few of their P5 accounts and I've already installed and started testing a PHP/MySQL bulletin board. It's not the fastest host in the world, but it seems acceptable. My other host (from which I will probably move my site to Cyberwings) is much, much faster (and has SSH, etc.), but also many times more expenisve. but I'm not sure how it will be if there's a lot of traffic, but you still can't beat the price. BTW, I set up the bulletin board, just by reading the docs and searching the Cyberwings support board - there's a lot of info there, if you're willing to look.

I haven't had any real problems, but they responded promptly to my questions and service requests (like setting up a subdomain).

I'm only using mail forwarding (not POP), but it seems to work fine.

I really hope these guys don't screw us speed-wise or service-wise by taking on all these customers in such a short amount of time. Even if it was only $4, there are gonna be plenty of pissed off people should they oversaturate their hardware and bandwidth.

Expect 10 days after your order date before receiving your welcome email. I signed up a total of five #5 accounts with them. They all took between 7-10 days. Although they encourage paypal payment, I found that payments through 2checkout.com actually have a faster account setup time.

It's a week today for me... if they were going to take this long in setting up the accounts, you'd at least think they could let people know. It's really frustrating paying for something, being promised a certain delivery date, then having to wait, wait, and wait some more as they try to keep up with high demand.

I'd be happy with a simple e-mail saying "it's gonna take about 10 days to set up your account, thanks for your business."

Few questions:

When I sign up for the plan, how do I enter my domain names??
Do I include the whole http://www.~~~.com or just whatever.com or what??

Also, what is the FrontPage extensions?? is that easier to use than FTP??

Thanks.

Ordered on March 25th and no word.

I've done everything to get some response and nothing. Using their PerlDesk help system i useless. They just come back and say "Can't give out and ETA"

I'm getting ticked now. Should at least send out an email on status. They put up the 7-10 business day thing way after March 25th. Anyway you look at it, today it the 10th day....

They may be a suck... watch out

So, I signed up for a couple of their accounts. Curious, but it sounds like they take over DNS services for you... Don't know if I'm into that or not.

But, haven't heard anything yet. Signed up 4/2, so I still have awhile to wait. Maybe in time for my birthday on the 12th!

Guess it's not too much lost, if I don't get anything.

Umm...Whine whine...What else would you be using your $4 on...a Whopper combo? This is one of those 'you get what you pay for' deals and $4 for a year of hosting is something that might take a little patience and understanding...apparently you have neither. If it ends up that we all got scammed then just remember that is only $4, or $3.90 for the anals

You don't get wealthy by letting little things go.

I believe that they do not support ASP and JSP.

I would suggest you go for FTP over FP extensions. With FTP, you can use any FTP client to put your files up, you can do it on FP, save it and upload using FTP. But if you go for FP they you are stuck with having to use FP.

slimbim: I believe that you can use either www.domainname.com or domainname.com

Got my domain and hosting ready to fire. Can't go wrong with this price!!
I was planning to use Frontpage for setup my first website, but most of the people dislike and talk crap about FP.

Can someone recommand a program for people like me who like to setup a simple website but don't know crap about html, asp, or cgi stuff.
