It has been a while since I've lurked/logged in but wanted to share this.
A long long time ago.... I purchased a Cybex (now by Avocent) 4 port server switch with PS2 plugs.
It has been hooked up to various keyboard/mice but spent most of its life with a good old
boat anchor Compac keyboard and a 4D gereric version of the Microsoft Explorer (Silver five button) Optical.
This Cybex has an amazing ability to push good resolutions and always remains synced.
Boot up sequence, remote switching and all the claimed functionality has never failed as
advertised. Well the 4D mouse bit it (get what you pay for) after replacing a few microswitches
and I started shopping. The Microsoft wireless desktop has been distributed as overstocks (I think) for
cheap and I picked one up. Well it has full function (AFAICT) across all machines without
any software install and the function of the KVM is intact.
yeah the keyboard feels cheap and the mouse 5 button/1 scroll/ball is much less than state of the art
but for a wireless/KVM set, not too shaby. Ultra convienient in certain circumstances, like if you like to get
a big comfy chair and put your feet up while developing or reading docs. In time the price of batterries will
probably kill the joy but for now, what fun.
