CPGA demo
With processor speeds reaching 1gHz even in the Cyrix machines the idea of too slow of CPU is absurd. Most OEM machines have sub-par gaming level performance anyways and are not worth upgrading. The CyrixIII seems to run most applications more than adequate for the average PC newbie.
The new CPGA by VIA is soldered into motherboards just like the OEM chips of the early 1990's. And why not? They cut down quite a bit on the overall cost by doing this style of packaging. It may seem pretty restrictive since an upgrade would be impossible, but does it really matter to most people that opt for cheap OEM machines?
