Question - I lost a harddrive on one of my crunchers. Is it possible to load D2OL on a new HD and use the same node number on the one I lost?

Reaper, can you still access the hard drive? There is a file you need in SengentD2OL\D2OL\res called node.prp.

Here is what Andy posted on the D2OL Forum:

If you have to do a reinstall of D²OL, perhaps after a reformat, and you have a number of candidates complete tied to a particular node that you don't want to lose, copy the node.prp file (also found in SengentD2OL\D2OL\res ) to a floppy. It's only 1k.
After reinstalling D²OL, cancel when it asks for your email address and copy your node.prp file back into SengentD2OL\D2OL\res.
You might need to replace the D²OL shortcuts on the Desktop and in the Startup folder if they still ask for your email address.

It should work for you too, if you can get to it.

Thanks for the answer MedicBob! Unfortunately can't get any files from the dead HD. I might try the freezer trick to see if I can retrieve any info. Can the node.prp file be edited?

The node.prp file is encrypted if I remember rightly

If you cannot get to the files then you are SOL. Sorry but it's a hard lesson that will teach you to back up your node.prp files.

As I suggest to all D2OL members, back up the node.prp files on a floppy or whatever. I have them on my machine at home, my server at the lab and also online on my ISP's server.

I went one step further.. I keep a CD of my node,prp files in my "fire-proof" safe along with my more mundane yet very important docs.
