PLS SEE THE NEW THREAD HERE

I WOULD ASK THAT ONLY PARTICIPATING TEAM MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN THIS POLL AND PLS INDICATE THAT YOU HAVE VOTED IN THE THREAD

PLEASE DO NOT TURN THIS THREAD INTO A RECRUITING THREAD!

It would appear that D²OL is basically dead. Support and representation from the project sponsors is virtually non-existant. I know many of you are frustrated with the server outages, the stats screwups, etc, etc. The only other team that is producing big numbers is hardCOREware, and they have reached their goal of 500K candidates and are talking about moving on. Is there enough interested go keep going for a couple of weeks and hit 1 million, or do people want to move on to other projects? Do we want to move to a similar project (TSC Childhood Diseases for example, that uses the same client, but their own servers after this weekend), or something different. I know many of us are in this for the humanitarian benefit of this particular project and would prefer to stick to a similar project instead of a mathematical or crypto project. I'm open to all suggestions.

I voted to keep going to reach the million.
After that I'm thinking of going back to Folding@Home.
Edit:
Looks like I boobed with my vote <sigh>
I'm definately on for the million

The past four days I've been getting dockwin.exe errors that's been killing my production. Looks like other people are having this problem too (TSC and D2OL). I say we stay to one mill and then jumpoff the sinking ship.

Edit - I voted go with the flow.

i've only got a couple of systems going on d2ol right now due to the outages. I'd recommend we go to a million, then move in bulk to a project that needs help. I don't have any systems on F@H, and I know they need some help, maybe F@H? TSC's fine, too. I'll pretty much run whatever you all decide, as long as the client doesn't cause me huge problems.

You mean the project didn't die months ago.

Sorry. As a former member of the D2OL TeAm I know how frustrating the project is and I commend you all for sticking with it for so long. Its just too bad the creators of the project don't seem to care about the goal as much as the producing members do.

I personally would love to see the team hit 1 million before any exodus. When/if you all do leave D2OL I would love to have you as teammates again in my current project. I would even be willing to help you hit 1 million if it would convince a few of you to join a certain project afterwards.

BTW how long is the projected timeline until the 1 million goal is reached?

I only joined a few weeks ago, so i'd like it to keep going. I voted to go with the flow, because if they cant be bothered to maintain the servers then there is little point hanging around. But its a shame, its a project where i was able to produce results daily. I moved from seti due to connection problems, and only producing a couple of units a day. I moved to F@H but then swapped because it was taking around 5-6 days to finish a WU.

Hit a million then move on. I will put a couple rigs on Eccp. The rest can run partime on something else for the summer.

If you had asked this one or two months ago I would have said lets ditch this project. But lately things have been going very smoothly for me, so I am just gonna go with the flow for now. Good luck.

Though not a current producer, I figure I can still vote since I have done alot of work for the project - that said, I voted "yes" - the ship has sunk. I know - big surprise.
Like many others, I was really enthusiastic about the goals of the project with potentially immediate benefits for all humanity, but it's rather difficult to justify the extraordinary effort we as end-users have to go through to make the project work.

Edit: FWIW, if most of us want to at least get to the 1 Million mark(if nothing else than for bragging rights), I'll fire up a couple rigs and try to help with this final push.

Rich- I appreciate your input, but I really wanted leave the poll open to active participants to decide as a group what to do going forward. You already decided that

I just forked out 2500.00 to build 4 new servers for this project. I cant bail before I get the rest of the parts to even finish the last one.

I voted for "go with flow".

Personally, I like the project but I am becoming tired of the zero communication from Sengent, and obviously, the flakey servers/candidates. Additionally, when I got home from work last night and found one of my 3GHz machines chewing on bad candidate (for 16hours) I was rather pissed. Why they can't get the bad candidate problem resolved is beyond me. Granted they're not as frequent as they were.....but obviously it is still not fixed.

And yeah, as I've said before, trying to talk to the martians or finding a number in a haystack does nothing for me. That said though, I've honestly got no idea what other humanitarian projects are out there.

I wish I had 2500 to buy some new machines with

But yea, I voted for go w/ the flow. I'm still relatively new. Climbed up quite a ways I think , but in the end, if you guys want to stick w/ the project, I've got no problem with that and the same goes with leaving. I haven't used d2ol for that long of a time. Only time I've had problems was that one weekend when the servers went down and I couldn't get any new candidates. I'm not at school right now, but if the stat sites are accurate, one of my machines stopped crunching.. either the application crashed or I got a bad candidate. So I can understand why people would want to stop this project. Anyway, I'll be here till someone sez we're going to pull the plug on this project

I'll answer this because I see a lot of people unsure what they want to do because they don't know what their options are.

As far as Drug or Humaitarian projects go there are:

United Devices - Cancer research
Community TSC - Cures for childhood deseases
Entropia - Find a cure for AIDS I think?
Find-A-Dug - Looks for better drugs to treat or cure several deseases including HIV and cancer
Distributed Folding - Understand the way proteins fold (could help in many aspects of health and understanding the body)
Folding@Home - Similar enough to Distributed Folding that I don't know the difference in goals
Genome@Home - Attempt to better understand the human genome

For more and better info on these and other DC projects visit this wonderful site.

Community TSC - Cures for childhood deseases (also run by Sengent)

TSC is not ran by Sengent anymore!
In fact the first part of the week they are tranferring everything to their own machines in New York and they have been very quick to respond to problems since removing the project from Sengent.( Even on weekends )

Thanks for the info guys... it would seem that the concensus of people who are still participating are willing to continue for now. That may very well change over this weekend as the stats server is already dead. :|

Pls don't turn this into a recruiting thread... we are not there yet.

I voted to continue to the 1 million. I know I'm not producing at the moment, but it's due to electrical problems that I've had.

I'm not trying to recruit anyone just correct some misinformation. I think what you guys have done is awesome and it would be a shame to give it up now like so many people and whole teams have gave up on TSC.

I chose "go with the flow." Reaching exactly 1,000,000 and then quitting would be cool though.

I vote we hang in there until a million then on to a different project. Personally we I think we should move in mass to another project and run under the name EX-D2OL. (I mean a miniteam name under the Anandtech banner)
