over half a century ago, many men died on this day in order to defeat facism. lets make sure it stays defeated, and  to all our vets who made the world a safer place by facing the germans that day and during the entire war.

just seeing "June 6" gives me a chill. largest amphibious operation in history, many brave men died for what was truly a noble cause.

for all those allies and duped germans who were killed or badly injured. especially the huge losses on the airbourne troops and omaha.

it brought a tear to my eye to walk through the cemetries 10 years ago.

but it was a worthwhile and willing risk that people took.

this is by far the best book i have read on WW2, unfortunately out of print

the best WW1 book I have read is actually storm of steel, by a german. his experiences were incredible. in one battle their battalion took 80% losses from the artillery beforehand!

If anyone gets the chance I highly suggest the D-Day National Museum in New Orleans. I went in November and was amazed by the things I learned that day.

D-Day might be the most important day of modern history

The only thing that bothers me is it seems like the 60th anniversary of D-day is being overshadowed by Reagan's death. Looked like they're completely ignoring D-day on the Sunday politics shows.

hmm, lets talk about something that happened 60 years ago versus, one of our past president's dying yesterday.

doesn't seem like that tough a choice to make to me.

Yes, thanks to the allies for freeing Europe, but lets not forget that the Russians helped a lot too. If it wasn't for the Russians, the Western allies would have a LOT more casualties.

It wasn't only this operation.

Let us never forget the sacrifices made in the name of freedom on this day, 60 years ago

Gold, Sword, Juno, Omaha, Utah, plus the Caen and Orne bridges, taken by the Airborne troops.

Don't forget the German troops that died by the hands of our veterans at those beaches.

Salute to all the veterans!

My grandfather landed at Omaha, he never would tell all the stories, but the ones he did tell us were awful.

If it weren't for what those men did 60 years ago, the B in Reagan's B-movie career would've stood for Berlin.

I'm not saying that Reagan dying shouldn't be news. I'm saying they shouldn't ignore one of the most important days in our history because of it.

i did a 20 page research paper on d-day a year ago, and it makes my eyes water when i remember some of the stuff i learned from it. the whole war was terrible and painful to learn about, but what happened on the beaches of normandy was hell on earth. thanks to everyone who was part of that (and the whole war in general) for your sacrifices and bravery.
