Oh, never mind. I though it was one of the 108Mbps, but that is the 624 aka "extreme". This one is the 54Mbps router.

If the only difference bewteen the 524 and the 624 is 54mbps vs 108mbps, don't waste your money on the 624.

I have the 624.

In order to use the "Turbo Mode" several conditions must be met.

1. Only chanel 6 can be used
2. All devices must be "turbo mode" enabled
3. All devices must be 802.11g.

If any of the above conditions are not met, you will default back to 54mbps operation.

I'd also like to add a 4th item. All network products should be d-link 108mpbs turbo enabled. I have another card that is "turbo enabled" that I couldn't get to connect at 108mpbs..... After getting "help" (cough cough) from dlink, they just pretty much told me that the turbo-mode isn't supported for non-dlink products.

Anyways...... do you really transfer that much data between devices? If so, get a freaking 100mbps or 1Gbit wired connection.....

But other than that, that my Di-624 rocks!!! use my own radius server for encryption, 802.11g only, no SID broadcast, and MAC filters.... pretty darn hard to get on my wi-fi network. Especially considering the 3 other AP's I can see are WIDE OPEN with default configs!

I have a Dlink DI-614+ and a DWL-650+ which use the 802.11b+ protocol for 20mb....is the DI-524 backwards compatible so I can get at least 20 mb? If I have one 20mb card and one G (54mb) card in two different pc's does it do 10 or 20 to the first and 54 to the second or fall back to 10 for both pc's?

You can mix them, but it will make the G connection slower (still faster than the B, but slower than it would otherwise be)

How is the antenna on this router? I have a D-link 614+ (b) and a netgear wireless pci card (g) on a network and the signal sucks...

Is this one stronger?

802.11b+ is proprietary to Texas Instruments chipset. There is a D-Link DI-624+ 802.11g wireless router that is based on TI chipset and is backwards compatible with 802.11b+, but D-Link decided not to sell it in the U.S. With D-Link's U.S. 802.11g models, the most one can get out of an 802.11b+ product is an 11mbps link (about one-third the speed of an 802.11b+ network in 22mbps/4x mode).

Doesn't seem any worse than my old Linksys I spent $170 for back in the day.

I bought the DI-624 Router and the DWL-G520 Desktop pci card yesterday and the network is running fine at 108mbps. But I found a problem just 1 hour ago when someone called house phone which is 2.4ghz cordless phone. The whole internet will disconnect, the wireless computer and even the wired computers loose internet connection. Does this happen to all 2.4ghz wireless networks or is it this particular brand? Anyone experiencing the same thing?

It's not just this combination, it can happen with all brands (although I think that some phones claim to not interfere with wireless networks, but I don't know about that). Your best bet is to either change the channel that the router is using, change the channel that the phone is using (if you can) or get a 900MHz phone.

Or you could try moving the phone. I had the same problem with an SMC router (I think it was smc, maybe it was a compaq router) where I would have to reboot everything after the phone call. My solution was to move the phone/base upstairs (the router was downstairs) and get a 900MHz phone for downstairs and that seemed to work

actually i thnk its good that ur internet connection drops. linksys/broadcom-chipset made a huge hoo-ha over the dlink/netgear/atheros-chipset 108mbps solution. basically they claim that the whole 2.4ghz band is used for 108mbps in some sort of channel bonding thing. this has been independently confirmed to an extent.

the short of it is, to use 108mbps, no other device can use the 2.4ghz band -- ur phone might not have rung. would u prefer that?

dont buy this because it is said that this not only increase speed but will also decrease other performance speed. it is not like any ordinary router because if one computer wants the entire bandwidth, it takes it from all of your other ports making everyone slow down. normally, each are pipped equally so no one hoggs the entire bandwidth. give a second thought.
