D-Link closeouts at Officemax

Officemax has some pretty good deals on D-Link wireless networking products, after mail in rebates, of course. I picked up a USB wireless network card (DWL-120) for $49.95 with a $10 mail in rebate and a access point for $89.95 with a $20 mail in rebate. Assuming I get both rebates, getting a wireless access point and network card for $110 after rebates seemed like a decent deal. Since I already had a D-Link 704P 4 port router, I didn't feel like spending the extra $30 for the wireless router (4 port wireless router $129.95 with a $30 mail in rebate). They didn't have any of them out on display locally, but they had some in "lockup" and I was able to get what I needed. Installed and sharing the downstairs DSL connection as I type this! Pretty slick!

Search "wireless" and "health" or other related words on www. google.com. You will find lots of infomation about that.

Although, it just "COULD BE" dangerous and hazardous to human health, I won't take any chance for my baby.

And, considering that, companies making wireless merchandise are trying every effort to convince people it's safe to use wireless stuff... for adults, in my point of view, it's better to keep away from wireless stuff as possible as we can.

Wireless routers/ cards/ USB/ devices commonly use the 2.4 Ghz spectrum, Cordless phones also use this spectrum.

Wireless devices are all around us (internet cafes, school campuses, offices, airports etc).

What is in these wireless devices that make it dangerous to babies? What about adults , are we affected too? Is there a scientific study you can point to us other than "search google" ?

Blanket statments without hard facts just breeds unfounded panic. Unless i actually read some solid evidence to back up your claim, I will continue using these wireless devices.

One thing to add: These "closeout" deals don't really seem like that good of deals at all, especially considering other current wireless deals. Search around here and FW before you decide to go for these "closeouts" at OM.

Yeah, that's absolutely ridiculous. If you review the primary literature for cell phone radiation and cancer, you'll find that the evidence is completely lacking...there MIGHT be a relationship, but there's no way you can conclude that right now. What people fail to realize is that there *IS* good evidence that talking on the cell phone is associated with an increased risk of being in a traffic accident, and the relationship is close to what we see in people who have been drinking.

Now 802.11b uses MUCH less power than a cell phone, the same freq as your 2.4GHz cordless phone, and it's much further from your body than your cordless....so you would have to stipulate that 2.4GHz phones shouldn't be used around babies either. Ridiculous.

On the other hand, there ARE things that you can to protect your baby's health, like regular physician visits with immunizations, use a car seat, block off stairs and pools, childproof outlets, etc. If you obsess about the nonexistent health hazards of 802.11b and fail to consider the things that really count, then you really do your child a disservice. It also doesn't help to misinform people on AT with such nonsense.

Please, this is ridiculous. Your baby gets more harmful radiation by going outside. If you are going to be that paranoid you have to make sure that you have no chordless phones, never ever turn on a baby monitor, don't ever use a microwave and make sure that none of your neighbours do either. And while you are at it, you probably don't want electricity in your house either.

The power level of the standard 30 mw radio in most 802.11b devices is such that at more than 5 feet from the radio the exposure is less than random cosmic radiation. So with your logic you will probably need to look for a different planet for your baby, "just to be safe".
