Circuitcity online and B&M has the D-Link DCF650W Compact Flash 802.11b card for $89.99 - $50 rebate. Great deal IMHO. Review can be found here. Search for "dcf650w" on circuitcity.com or pick one up in the store.

Don't really want to bump this as I want to make sure I get in on one first... But it is too good a deal to pass up if you have an IPAQ already.

Especially as all the other 802.11b stuff goes on sale. I am now completely decked out for any possible networking configuration.

Anyone have experience with CC rebates? Both rebates (the $10, and then the $40) claim to require "original UPC" symbols. Any ideas?

I'd prefer a SD version, but I can't pass this up. Thanks

I'm really tempted to get this since I just got some wireless networking stuff, how well does this work in an ipaq? It doesn't seem like it would be too easy to browse the internet on one of these

Does anyone know if this will let you sync to a pc automatically when you're in range of your home access point?

Regarding the rebates - Send in the original UPC with the $40. Send a copy with the $10. If for any reason they reject the $10, call them up and tell them they were wrong to reject it. Generally they reinstate it without and hassle. I have never had any more trouble than having to call to recieve multiple rebates on a single item.

Regarding the IPAQ - From the reviews it sounds like this works well with the IPAQ, apart from the fact that your IPAQ has a screen resolution of something really small like 240x320. Basically its not great for web browsing, but that is not due to the DCF-650W, its due to the size of the IPAQ screen. Keep that in mind as you run out to buy one of these.

Regarding Syncing via the wireless connection - Somebody mentioned it in one of the user reviews, but it was vague. Their comment was that you couldn't when using PPC 2002? I know you can reviece e-mail instantly, which seems to me to be virtually a sync type feature?

This card will work with an Ipaq.

Reviews say range & sensitivity aren't as good as some of the other cards on the market, but it's $39, so buy it and test the card in your setting. If it doesn't work, Circuit City will accept returns.

List of PC cards that work with PPC/Win CE.

Also go to practicallynetworked.com for more info.

Those with a Jornada, you may need a Type II to Type I adapter because this CF card is type II (a bit thicker) and may not fit directly in your PDA. The Ipaq has no problem, using either the CF sleeve or the PCMCIA sleeve with CF Adapter (you will need a type II Adapter though); I have used this card before and it worked very well

I bought this card a month or so ago at Amazon for $65 shipped, so this is a pretty good deal. I use it with my iPAQ and my D-Link DI711 router. Overall, it works pretty well. I can sit in my living room (computer is in the basement) and surf the web, etc. Yes, the screen is small, but the portability makes up for it. I have not yet figured out how to sync it, but I have also read that it may not be possible. I haven't investigated thoroughly.

The nice thing about this card is that you can combine it with a CF II to PCMCIA adapter and use it in your laptop. D-Link also sells this card as a kit with the adapter, so they have drivers available on their web site. The kit is over $100, but you can pick up the adapter alone for less than $15. If you look at adapters, make sure it is CF TYPE II to PCMCIA. There are a lot of CF type I adapters that are really cheap, but the D-Link will not fit in them. I have a type I adapter and have verified this.

Here is the one I ordered and I received it with no problems. There is also one available on the CompUsa web site from Microtech, but it is not available in their stores. This setup works fine in my Dell C800 work laptop. Range does not appear to be that great, but it beats buying two separate cards.

With the rebate, this is a good deal. Too bad I didn't wait, but at the time $65 was the cheapest around

I think all the HP's have CF Type 1 slots, so the D-Link will not fit without an adapter.

Ok so I bought one of these for my IPAQ which is running PPC 2002. However I can't seem to get this to access the internet?

Setup:
Desktop with internet connection sharing enabled. (IP 192.168.0.1)
DWL-1000AP Wireless Access Point connected to Desktop. (IP 192.168.0.61)
Ipaq 3635 with DCF-650W Installed. (IP 192.168.0.254)
All on subnet 255.255.255.0 and the default client.

My Ipaq is setup for infrastructure mode and has a good signal.
Additionally, I can ping from the desktop to the ipaq and access point and from the Ipaq to the desktop and access point.

However, when I open pocket IE and try and goto any url (www.yahoo.com for example) I get one of two errors:
Based on the 'Settings' 'Connections' tab of the ipaq.

When Connect to the internet is setup through 'The Internet' I get the error "The page your are looking for cannot be found"
When connect to the internet is setup through 'Work' I get the error "Unable to connect with current settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings"

I have not changed either of those connection options. How do I get this to work? My IPAQ is on the network as far as I can tell, but can't access the internet?

regarding CC rebates

u can chk their status at http://www.circuitcityrebates.com/
also if u read the rebates, one will ask for the original which usually goes to teh manufacturer,
and the other is normally a Circuit city rebate which goes to young america in MN and asks
for a copy of the UPC and the receipt.
Just ask for a 2nd copy of hte receipt and ask ur sales counselor to make a copy of the
UPC code as well.
Note: most rebates take like 8-10 weeks and there is a phone number on the bottom
of the rebate so make a copy of the rebate

:|Ok, I'll try and make a long story short. I called CC customer service and asked if I could get both the $40 and $10 rebates. She said "No Problem", just send in a copy of the UPC for the other rebate. So I ordered it online. After printing out the rebates sheets, I noticed a number to call to check your rebates status. So I called and was greated by the "Dlink Rebates" lady. I asked her about using both rebates and was told "No Way, just one rebate per item per addresses". She didn't care about what was listed on the CC web site. I called CC back and told her what the Dlink said. She put me on hold for a LONG time while she called the rebate center. Now her story changed, just one rebate per purchase. So I guess were stuck using just the $40 rebate.

Both these rebates are by Dlink. Usually when CC offers two rebates for one item, one rebate is offered by the Manufacturer and the other by CC; but not in this case. I think their web site is misleading and they were definitely giving out the wrong info when I called before placing my order.

wjsulliv, I have the same setup and have similar problems. After installing the card, I fired up ActiveSync on my iPaq and clicked the Sync button. No problem. It made the little piano noises it makes when it connects with the PC and proceeded to sync just as if it was sitting in my USB cradle. It even notified me that I had new unread emails.

However, I was unable to get it to browse the Internet, as it gave me the message "Unable to connect to the Internet with the current settings". I clicked on the Settings button and changed the last selection "My network card connects to:" to "The Internet" and it started working. I haven't tried it yet, but I suspect I will have to change the setting back to "Work" to get wirless syncing to work again.

BTW, get NYDitot Virtual Display (or some other app) that will let you change your screen to landscape. Web pages are a little better if you view them landscape. Also, you can use Avantgo to subscribe to sites that have PDA designed pages.

Just because it doesn't show that there are any in store doesn't mean it they have it there. All the stores near me are showing not instock, but I found them in one of the stores when I physically went there.

wjsulliv, had the same problem with the 3955, did exactly what JeffSpicoli did and it worked, now I'm gonna see if it will sync...
