HTPC. HD content can use up a lot of bandwidth, this would allow for multiple streams. But if you already have a wireless router, it'd be cheaper to just plug a gigabit switch into it and plug your required wire connections into that.

This is the non wireless version, the one with wireless (supports wireless b/g/108g) is the DGL-4300

FYI - D-Link is having rebates on lots of stuff for 'Back to School' - started 8/01 and expires 9/15. Includes switches, routers, cable modems, adaptors, etc.

Participating e-retailers include Newegg, ZZF, Dell, Amazon, Buy.com and a couple of others.

I got a 8-port gigabit switch (DGS-2208) for $27AR at Amazon.

I have this router and it absolutely rocks. Paid $110 (I think) at the time, so this is a great deal.

Fantastic router - easily the most stable I've ever had, and high performance to boot. Only thing I'd warn about is that it doesn't have jumbo frames on the switch, which could be an issue for people who have that enabled on their networks already.

I have this router and love it. It has always worked perfectly unlike my previous Linksys models that had to be rebooted once a week (when they were not rebooting on their own).

No offense to OP. but I don't see how this is a hot deal. I got an 8 port Netgear 6 months or more ago which supports jumbo frames and gigabit over cat5 for $35AR. It's never given me a moment's trouble. I don't want to get flamed for this, but I think there are hotter deals than this daily... If that's not the case, someone please explain why this is HOT?

Well I got mine, and this is my point, they should be getting cheaper - what's the the cool technology in this so-called "gaming" router that's so fantastic? Did they make the case clear and add a neat-o blue cathode? :-/

If you can live with 5 ports:

Netgear 5 port Gigabit Switch - 10/100/1000 - GS605NA

This is only $23 AR ($10). If you haven't used GCO with buy.com yet you could snag it for $13 AR.

I may pick that up with GCO. That's a pretty decent deal - thx for the info. I had a Netgear GS105. It run so hot that it locked up. I believe it's also successfully fried my linksys router, among other things. But it worked well for about a year and a half before that. I recently went through 3 DLink wireless routers. All failed to stay up longer than a a couple of days. All 3 were returned. I now have a Trendnet wireless router, and it's been better, but still needs to occassional kick in the pants. I wish my Netgear wireless router hadn't gotten fried (by said GS105 switch, if my guess is correct).

Great product, mine has been chugging along for almost 3 years, I paid a LOT more then this back then. LOTS of HD video files have crossed this bad boy...
