D-Link 802.11g Wireless router
(802.11b compatible, but can supposedly reach 54Mbps with 802.11g devices)
built in 4-port 10/100 Base-T switch

$69.99 - $20 mail-in rebate + free shipping = $49.99 + tax

direct link to DI-524

I've been reading the technical specifications of the DI-524 and comparing it against those of the DI-624, and as far as I can tell they appear to be identical (now that the latest DI-624's ship with one antenna). Anyone know different?

I've had good experiences with D-Link routers, and $49 after rebate seems like a good price for one that does 802.11g.

They do have support info posted. And this includes the manual and tech specs.

I have noted one difference so far -- There's no quick install guide for Mac OS X for the DI-524 but they do have one available for the DI-624. But the DI-524 manual mentions that it's Mac compatible (and since it's web configureable it really should be compatible with any OS capable of running a decent web browser).

I believe that the 524 is discontiinued, and I am also sure that the 524 will not do the xtreme-G mode of the 624 (108Mbps with other compatible DLink equipment.)

Bought this one last sunday. It crashes every 12 or so hours and needs a reboot.
This is listed on their support site as a problem.

I will be returning it this weekend.

I bought the di-624 and dwl-g520 card this week to replace my di-514 and dwl-520.

It was a freakin nightmare. Eventually I realized that for some reason, the di-624 wasn't locking the wan port @ 10mb\s like all my other routers have done, because that's what my cable modem requires (dlink dcm-200.) There was a firmware revision that allows you to lock the WAN @ 10mb\s though, but it only works for the revision C1 routers. So I went and got one of those. Put on the firmware. Then realize that only the newest version of the firmware supports Super G (108mbs.) For some reason the newer version didn't include the 10mb\s WAN lock. Dlink recommended I "return the items to the point of sale." I had run through most of this with them, btw.

So I return the router and get the netgear 108mb router. Also won't talk to my modem. So I buy a new Toshiba SURFboard cable modem. And I buy another C2 revision di-624. Go home and plug it all in, nothing, I get nothing, again. No IP address. I'm thinking, aw damnit. So I call comcast, and they say, "Well, you have to register your modems with us." So I get my modem registered, and I'm typing this message over my 108mb connection right now! Actually, I just checked, at it's at 94mbs... My signal strength always seems to be somewhere around 40 or 50%....

Anyways, it was a big hassle, and probably not worth it to go from B to G. Cost was $99 (router) + $59(card) + $79 (cable modem). Soooo, yeah. I sent in a bunch of rebates too, even though I still haven't gotten the rebates from when I bought the wireless B stuff.

Oh, and since my signal strength is so low, I think I'm going to hook up a bigger antenna to the router... That'll be another $30 to compusa.

Yeah, thanks!

I think I'll be getting my Grandma the 624 and will steer clear of the 524.

The 624 could be had for $52 after rebate from compuplus, but they charge $14.95 as a minimum for shipping...
Aha, outpost.com has it for $61.99 after rebate and charge $3.95 for shipping... a savings of $1!

Hmmm...
